Mounting a Volume after reboot
Hello list I want to learn more aboutVeritas Storage Foundation Basic. First to test if will be useful for my projects and second to get the knowledge. It hink it could be very useful on a larger XEN environment Step one So under VMware Worksation I have got installed RHEL 5.5 with two virtual drives. One with 10 GB for the OS and one with 100 GB to play with Veritas. The System is a minimal installation. Only the dependencies for Veritas Storage Foundation Basic are installed. Veritas is installed as minimal a installion, configured without networkservices. After installation I have got rebooted my system and all Initscripts for Veritas has got started successfully. Step two My 100 GB Drive is /dev/sdb so I have begun to create a Volume /opt/VRTS/bin/vxdisksetup -i sdb vxdg init storage0 disk01=sdb vxassist -g storage0 maxsize vxassist -g storage0 make vol0 5000m mkfs -t vxfs /dev/vx/rdsk/storage0/vol0 mount -t vxfs/dev/vx/rdsk/storage0/vol0 /mnt So everything has happened successful. But after reboot the system it doesn't works any more. I cant mount Volumes. mount -t vxfs /dev/vx/rdsk/storage0/vol0 /mnt UX: vxfs mount.vxfs : Error: V-3-21266:/dev/vx/rdsk/storage0/vol0 not a block device vxdg list NAME STATE ID storage0 enabeled, cds 1290381399.7.BOX01.my.tld So anybody can tell me whats going or what I am doing wrong? best regards Darko HojnikSolved2.3KViews1like5CommentsTrialware Downloads of Previous Version of Storage Foundation?
Does anyone have a URL that I can use to download trailware (free/full-install but time-limited or somewhat feature-constrained) of previous versions of Storage Foundation? In particular, I work for a solid state storage vendor and I need to test with VxVM V5.0.40 MP4/V5.1.101.000 SP1RP1 on RHEL 5.5 for the sake of a mutual customer. Hi people, we're looking into the possibilty of purchasing a NexSAN SataBeast to use in our SAN. Ideally LUNs will be created on the array and then assigned to hosts such as an E2900 running Solaris 10, Symantec Storage Foundation Suite 4.1 and Oracle 10g. I was hoping anyone who has had experience of these arrays could give me an insight into any hidden problems that weren't foreseen at the time of purchase. I did read somewhere that the data cache isn't battery backed up and I'm not too sure about the idea of spinning disks up/down via AutoMaid etc. Any feedback albeit positive or negative would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jonathan.Solved1.8KViews0likes10CommentsDisk Error

Hi all! I'm in the middle of procuring a few new servers, which will need Veritas Storage Foundation standard on them. I've been getting outrageous quotes from the vendor and also some confusing cost tiering information. So I thought you experts might be able to help me clear some stuff up. Here are my questions : 1) I was told by the vendor that the current Veritas SF licenses are based on Server tiering and CPU/core tiering, and the server tiering is cheaper than the cpu one. However they are a bit vague on this and did not offer more info. Is this true? If so, is there any document anywhere outlining these tiers and the advantages/limitations? I am getting some T5440 with Sol10, with 4 and 8 cores. 2) I have 3 servers (all SUN V440) with Veritas Storage Foundation 4.0 that I have retired recently. I wonder if its possible for me to re-use these licenses on the new servers, or somehow upgrade them? Is this possible (in light of the latest license tiering, etc). 3) While I acquire these new licenses, I requested for some evaluation ones because I would like to start setting the servers up already. I was told that starting from 5.1 onwards, Symantec doesnt provide eval licenses and instead, if I enter blank during license registration, it automatically will allow me to use it free for 60 days. Is this true? Also, once I get the actual license keys and register them, will they be any downtime (provided I do this within the 60 days period). I think not, but appreciate if you can confirm. Hi all, I am looking after the storage infrastructure made of a large set of point solutions and I need to streamline our storage activities on the host layer. We have a lot of LVM flavors: Storage Foundation for Windows(SFW), Solaris SVM + ZFS, Linux Red Hat LVM, Windows LDM 2k3+2k8, VMware VMFS, etc... As storage administrators, I think we all face the same baseline activities on the host: BAUQuadrant: Storage Commission ----------- Storage Decommission Storage Allocation ------------- Storage Reclamation Advanced: Snapshots, migration, correction, replication, etc... I am looking for a comparison matrix like this one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logical_volume_management) that is listing the different Logical Volume Managers and their functionalities. The key results are around the functionalities that can be done 'online', like file system expand and shrink.... if anyone has this info, please share!!
