NIC Teaming Slow Throughput, any ideas?
Hey guys, We currently have 2Gig set up through NIC teaming for our backup exec setup. When we have backups running, it barely reaches 35-40% of the bandwith. I am using Backup Exec 2010. Has anyone else here set up NIC teaming before? What are some things that might cause slow performance? Are there any specific settings in Backup Exec that may help? Thanks!5.2KViews3likes9CommentsDevice Pool, Concurrent Operation
Backup Exec 2010 R3 on Server 2003. Two Tandberg 8-slot autoloaders with one drive each, placed in a device pool. If I set my jobs to target the pool only one job runs at a time. To use both devices at the same time, I have to target the devices individually, not the pool. How do I get concurrent operation out of the device pool? Library Expansion Option is installed.856Views0likes6CommentsCannot add HP tape library in BE storages
Hello, BE 2014SP2 in Windows 2012R2 Server (VM) with library expansion option and current maintenance I'm trying to setup HP MSL4048 tape library. The HCL prooves the validity of the specified HP model. The steps I'm following: I select Configure Storage from the Storage tab of the BE management console I select the listed BE Server On "which type of storage do you want to configure?" I select Tape storage On "what type of tape storage do you want to configure?" there's only one selection "Run the Hot-swappable Device Wizard" which apparently has nothing to do with tape libraries.. So what am I missing here? I know the BE drivers are not supported when BE installed on Windows 2012R2. Is there something that need to be done prior the above steps? Any help is much appreciatedSolved1.1KViews0likes3CommentsQuantum i80 IBM LTO6 on BackupExec 2014 missing drive
Hello I have a Quantum i80 device with 2 IBM UKTRIUM-HH6LTO6 drives that I have updated the firmware on as Quantum has said. It is shown that the drives will work with Backupexec 2014 once I update the firmware. I have the drives attached by FC though a FC switch to the blade that is running the server. This is a brand new install. New 2012 R2 server and new tape library. I can see the Library in Backupexec with the two drives but one drive is always saying "missing device" I have tried reboots and rediscovery a bunch of times but it still just says missing device. Does anyone have any ideas?2.1KViews0likes9CommentsMSL Library Windows 2012 R2 MOVE_MEDIUM Timeout
I am getting timeout errors when I try to load a tape using Backup Exec. It's been running on a Windows 2k server and BE 12 for years. Works great. I have a a new server running Windows 2012 R2 and it takes the drive and library offline. I'm running tracer from Symantec to log the commands. On the 2012 server, after 37 seconds I get a ASPI = SCSI_COMPLETED_WITH_ERROR HBA = SELECTION_TIMEOUT On the old server, after 46 seconds I get SCSISTAT_GOOD STATUS_SUCCESS I've powered down everything 5 times. I've tried HP drivers and also the stock Microsoft drivers. After 2 days of searching HP and Symantec I need some help.921Views0likes5CommentsBE Slow Throughput to HP Disk Library...
Greetings! I have a server running 2012 R2 and BE 2014 and the data transmission speed to my HP MSL4048 tape library is abysmally slow. The Library is connected to the server via fibre and the server is connected to the network via 10 GB Twinax to a Cisco Nexus. I've tested the LAN throughput by writing a backup job to disk and that transmission speed was in the 3-5 GB/Min range. When we back up to the tape library, the transmission speed drops to 3 MB/Min. Also, if I look at the properties of the library or tape drives in BE, the connection type is "unknown". I've worked with reps from both Symantec and HP and while all my firmware and drivers are now updated, I'm still getting slow speeds. It's important to note that this device was in use at another location and shipped here, so we know it can get acceptable throughput.Solved1.2KViews0likes7CommentsD2D2T through SAN
The scenario desired is this: - Backup Exec Media Server installed within Virtual Machine (VMWare) - SAN Storage used as Backup Target (LUNs) - Tape library connected to SAN fro tape out Is there a way to set this up somehow by presenting both SAN and tape library to the BE MEdia Server and the effectively setup D2D2T with direct tape out from the SAN?Solved1.1KViews0likes3CommentsBackup Exec 2014 Backup-to-Dedupe Duplicate-to-Tape
Some other questions have touched on this topic but they all seem to be just a little different than my scenario. The issue I seem to be having is the following. I have a single Windows Server 2008 R2 server with Backup Exec 2014. I am not using CASO with a MMS. I run incrementals throughout the week and then a full backup to our dedupe storage on a SAN. I then run a duplicate of the previous Full backup job (not using scheduled option for duplicate job) to duplicate to tape for off-site storage. The intention is to retain two weeks of data on-site and more off-site. However, I see instances where, if the duplicate to tape job failes, the previous Full backup is no longer on the dedupe storage. This means we have to do the entire full backup over again and then duplicate to tape. In addition, this concerns me because I wonder if all the other jobs we write to tape in this manner are also getting removed from dedupe storage after the job either completes successfully or fails. It concerns me because we want to retain some of those on-site. Is this by design? Is there a way around this?1.2KViews1like8CommentsDuplicate secondary image on CAS ( as Private Cloud Server ) directly to attached tape library
This is a follow up from this discussion:https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/duplicate-secondary-image-cas-directly-attached-tape-library With private cloud feature enabled on the CAS, we tried the following: A. Created job template on MMS 1. Backup to MMS dedup - this step completes successfully. 2. Add Stage from the first Job > Duplicate to CAS - this step completes successfully. 3. Add Stage from the second Job > Duplicate to Any Tape Cartridge - this is stuck with status: "Ready, Storage has not been configured for backup exec server." B. Tried to create job template on CAS and delegated it to MMS 1. Backup to MMS dedup 2. Add Stage from the first Job > Duplicate to CAS 3. Add Stage from the second Job > Duplicate to Any Tape Cartridge - upon clicking OK to save the job template, it prompts: "The Backup Exec server specified and the device/storage devices pool specified do not share any devices." Quoting from the BE private cloud technical brief: "The backup stages that store backup data to the Managed Backup Exec Server at the client side, copy backup data to theCloud Storage Server at the Managed Services Provider’s site, and copy backup data to tape (D2D2T) can be easilyconfigured by the Managed Services Provider within a single backup definition.” Has anyone been able to successfully configure this setup to work? What is the recommendation for job start time windows, when using robotic libraries with 2 drives and one job should automatically start after the first has started. Are 5 minutes enough, e.g. JOB1 starts at 11:00 pm (time window till 11:25 pm) and JOB2 starts at 11:05 pm (time window till 11:30 pm)? What are your time windows settings?
