Veritas InfoScale 7.0: Licensing Veritas InfoScale 7.0
You require a license to install and use Veritas InfoScale products. There are two ways you can register the Veritas InfoScale product license keys: Use key-based licensing When you purchase a Veritas InfoScale product, you receive a License Key certificate. The certificate specifies the product keys and the number of product licenses purchased. Use keyless licensing The license is registered based on the product you install. Within 60 days of choosing this option, you must install a valid license key corresponding to the license level, or continue with keyless licensing by managing the systems with Veritas InfoScale Operations Manager. You can register the product license keys either manually or by using the installer. You can use the vxlicinstupgrade utility, if you want to: Upgrade to another Veritas InfoScale product Upgrade a temporary license to a permanent license Manage co-existence of multiple licenses For more information on licensing Veritas InfoScale products, see: About Veritas InfoScale product licensing Registering Veritas InfoScale using product license keys Registering Veritas InfoScale product using keyless licensing Updating your product licenses Using the vxlicinstupgrade utility Veritas InfoScale documentation can be found on the SORT website.1.5KViews3likes0CommentsStorage Foundation Veritas Volume Replicator
HI, I have a SF for windows with VVR in my infrastructure. I have 2 Node VCS Cluster of Exchange at Primary site and 1 Node VCS Cluster of Exchange at DR site without GCO. I have HP Storage at primary site with 13 volumes and NetApp Storage at DR site with 13 Volumes as well. Due to some problem at primary site my production is now at DR site means rite now my Secondary become primary and Primary become Secondary. So i replicate the data from DR to Primary using VVR and is running successfully. Now i want to move HP from Primary site which is passive and install New NetApp and configure the volume at primary site(Passive) and i want to replicate the Data from DR(Acive) to Primary's(Passive) HP and as well as NetApp for the time being. Is it possible to replicate the data one to many means can i replicate the data from DR(Active) NetApp to Primary's(Passive) HP and NetApp??? My Bandwidth is good which is 10GB. IF Yes? then how??. With the introduction of the Veritas InfoScale 7.0 product family, Dynamic Multi-Pathing (DMP) for VMware is now included as a component in the Veritas InfoScale Foundation, Storage, and Enterprise products. The license for this component is included as a part of the InfoScale license on both Linux and Windows. You can either use the Linux license or the Windows license to enable DMP functionality on the ESXi hypervisor. The DMP for VMware component consists of the following: vSphere offline DMP bundle — DMP components installed on the ESXi hypervisor vSphere UI plug-in — Installed on a Windows physical machine or on a virtual machine and serves as an interface between ESXi and vCenter Remote CLI package — Optional command-line interface to manage ESXi hosts from a Linux system or a Windows system The components can be installed using the command line or the VMware vSphere Update Manager. To install the Dynamic Multi-Pathing for VMware component on ESXi hosts, use one of the following: Veritas_InfoScale_Dynamic_Multi-Pathing_7.0_VMware.zip Veritas_InfoScale_Dynamic_Multi-Pathing_7.0_VMware.iso For more information on installing the DMP for VMware component, refer to the Dynamic Multi-Pathing 7.0 Installation Guide - VMware ESXi. From this release onwards: 1) DMP for VMware supports SanDisk (FusionIO) PCIe attached SSD cards. 2)TheDMP plug-in for the VMware vCenter web client: Displays I/O rate as a line graph. Displays the mapping of LUNs and VMDKs used by a virtual machine. Has a SmartPool tab for a virtual machine for easy configuration of SmartPool assigned to it. No longer requires ESXi login credentials in the Manage Device Support page. For more information about the features and enhancements, refer to the Dynamic Multi-Pathing 7.0 Administrator's Guide - VMware ESXi.756Views2likes1CommentDocuments to explain what detailed features are available for each licence
Are there any documents to explain what detailed features are available for each licence, preferably a single document or article in the "Getting Started guide" it gives a highlevel overview so it says an Enterprise licence gives Veritas Quick I/O option Veritas Extension for Oracle Disk Manager option Veritas Database Storage Checkpoint option Veritas Database Flashsnap Veritas Database Dynamic Storage Tiering but it doesn't say what flashsnap gives you or tell you what documentation you need to refer to, to find this out. I found some information for flashsnap in the "Veritas Storage Foundation Advanced Features Administrator's Guide", but this is not very detailed - it says: The following kinds of point-in-time copy solution are supported by the FlashSnap licence: ■ Volume-level solutions are made possible by the persistent FastResync and Disk Group Split/Join features of Veritas Volume Manager. These features are suitable for implementing solutions where the I/O performance of the production server is critical. ■ File system-level solutions use the Storage Checkpoint feature of Veritas File System. Storage Checkpoints are suitable for implementing solutions where storage space is critical for: ■ File systems that contain a small number of mostly large files. ■ Application workloads that change a relatively small proportion of file system data blocks (for example, web server content and some databases). ■ Applications where multiple writable copies of a file system are required for testing or versioning. This is not very clear as this reads as ifStorage Checkpoint are part of flashsnap, but the "Getting Starting Guide" says these are separate features, but this doesn't really matter as Enterprise license gives you both features, but it is not clear what snapshot features and other features flashsnap gives. So for example, the Volume Admin guide lists several types of snapshots: ■ Traditional third-mirror break-off snapshots ■ Full-sized instant snapshots ■ Space-optimized instant snapshots ■ Emulation of third-mirror break-off snapshots ■ Linked break-off snapshot volumes ■ Cascaded snapshots So which of these snapshots are made available with the flashsnap licence - the "Advanced Features" guide says These features are suitable for implementing solutions where the I/O performance of the production server is critical. If I/Operformance is critical, then you use full snapshots such as "Traditional third-mirror break-off snapshots", rather than Copy-On-Write snapshots such as "Space-optimized instant snapshots" so that Production writes are not impacted by snapshot writes, so this would imply that flashsnap gives you"Traditional third-mirror break-off snapshots" and not "Space-optimized instant snapshots", but I am pretty sure this is not the case andI THINK that flashsnap gives you: Snapshots that need DCOs (generally created with "vxsnap") so you don't need Flashsnap for snapshots without DCOs (generally created with"vxassist snap". Now even though DCOs give the ability to fast resync, even if you don't need this, you may still need a DCO so for instance if you need the abiltity to create a mirror in a separate diskgroup, then you need "Linked break-off snapshot volumes", but you may never snap back, so don't need fastresync, but I think you MUST create DCO (run vxsnap prepare) for"Linked break-off snapshot volumes" and therefore I THINK you need flashsnap. So I THINK all snapshots require flashsnap apart from "Traditional third-mirror break-off snapshots" Diskgroup split and join Site awareness feature What features are available with a licence change by version, so any docs which explain what the Enterprise license gives would be appreciated. Hi! Just trying out SF Basic on a freshly-built Windows 2008 R2 Standard server. The GUI installer won't allow me to check any of the features except the one to replace the Windows storage MMC. According to the SF 6.0 compatability guide, the array I'm using, an IBM DS3524, is supported, and Windows 2008 R2 is definately supported. The docs on the Basic version would seem to imply that DMP is included, too. I'm logged in with administrator rights (and have tried it logging in directly as the Administrator, too...). The MPIO feature is installed in the Windows Server Manager. Any idea why I can't install DMP, or any of the other features? The web page http://www.symantec.com/business/storage-foundation-basic clearly indicates that Dynamic Multipathing is part of the package... If DMP isn't part of SF Basic anymore, what's the advantage to use of SF? Are there any performance benefits anymore over the standard vendor DSM and Windows LDM? Dear Experts, We have SFHA CFS with VCS 5.0 running on 2xHP Rx6600 Itanium Server with Oracle DB cluster. We are using VVR to replicate Oralce prod DB to replicate to DR site. All these version as of now are 5.0. We want to migrate to new Rx2800 i2 Itanium servers and want to use existing license. I checked and the tier of both servers model is same. My question are: 1. Can we install SFHA 5.1 SP1 on new Rx2800 i2 Server with same license keys? 2. The old server are running HPUX 11i v2 where as new will be HPUX 11i v3, will this have any issue is using old keys? 3. What are any other dependency/issue i should know in advance before we start this? Our team have misplaced all license docs and i can just find the license keys in current running server. I know it sounds stupid but we dont have SFHA 5.0 media and some how got a media with SFHA 5.1 SP1, so just thought of taking help in know what can be done and what cant. Thanks a lot for your efforts in advance..!!Solved998Views1like4CommentsStorage Foundation License Tiering
I'm going through some old license purchases, and i've come across a substantial number of Storage Foundation Standard licenses of various license tiers. It also looks like some of the purchases were made on one tiering system (1A, 4C etc), and others were made on a different system (A-N) Does anyone have any guidance on how I interpret these tiers to confirm what my license entitlement is?
