BE2014 cannot restore NDMP data if that NDMP server no longer exists
I opened a case with Backup Exec on 9/3/2014 regarding restoring NDMP data from servers that no longer exist. In a nutshell we have lots and lots of historical Netapp/NDMP backups on tape of servers that have either been renamed ordecommissioned. When I load those tapes into BE2014 and perform an inventory and catalog it does notcreate any of the decommissioned NetApp servers, so I cannot select the server to perform the restore. Better yet, when I right click on the actual tape and select restore I get the message, "No Backup sets found". I can perform these same steps with the same tapesin BE2010R3 without issues. If anyone else out there has NDMP backups of servers that no longer exist i'd be curious if you witness the same problem.Symantec was able to replicate my issue in their lab and this was the response I got back when they closed the case. "I am writing you in reference to the open case mentioned above. Symantec Corporation has acknowledged the issue you are experiencing is present in the current version of the product. Symantec Corporation is committed to product quality and satisfied customers. This issue is currently under investigation by Symantec Corporation. Pending the outcome of the investigation, this issue may be resolved by way of a service pack in current or future revisions of the software. However, this particular issue is not currently scheduled for any release. If you feel this issue has a direct business impact for you and your continued use of the product, please contact your Symantec Sales representative or the Symantec Sales group to discuss these concerns. For information on how to contact Symantec Sales, please see http://www.symantec.com" I'm looking for any assistance I can get, for I cannot upgrade to BE2012 for the same reasons most of the community can't and I cannot purchase licenses for BE2010 because Symantec only supports thepriorversion being BE2012 at this point. Any help is appreciated. Chris StangerSolved962Views6likes3CommentsBackup of deduplicated EMC storage failed
Hello, we backuped our EMC storage very well since many years now. Recently, the expert in storage activated the deduplication of our NS120 storage, and now only Full backup succeed, all incremental backup failed with the following error: NDMP Log Message: SnapSure file system creation fails NDMP Log Message: Mover encountered internal socket error. NDMP Data Halted: Aborted NDMP Mover Halted: Internal Error I try to desactivate the option Snapsure, but i have another error message... I would like to keep deduplication activated because storage space becomes critical. Someone already face to this issue and find a solution? Hi All, I'm having an issue trying to restore NDMP data from a backup tape that was createdusing the same server, tape drive andNDMP deviceas the restore job. I am just restore a folder containing some files. The folder is simply a sub directory of shared folder. The error received is; "Final error: 0xe000fe29 - Authentication failed on connection to the server. Make sure that the user account has the appropriate permissions and that the password was typed correctly. Final error category: Security Errors For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-65065" I'm running Backup Exec 2010 r3 with SP2(Version 13.0 Rev. 5204 32-bit) and the tape drive is a rack mounted HP LTO-5 Ultrium 3000 SAS. I'm using the Symatec drivers for the tape drive and its running the latest firmware. The NDMP device is a Netapp FAS 2040 running Data OnTap 8.1rc3 The following articles describe the problem but the solutionshave not worked for me. The first article listed is the most accurate to my issue; http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH161386 http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH156278 In the restore job I am using the same credentials as the original backup job. When creating the restore job a test of the credentials returns successful. Can anybody help with this problem? I have not been able to find any articles or discussions that offer a solution. Running NetBackup 7.1 on Windows Server 2008 R2. I have an HP StorageWorks MSL4048 tape library with 2 drives installed. These are attached with fibre to 2 fibre channel ports on the back of my NetApp FAS2240. When I run sysconfig -t and sysconfig -m on the NetApp, it shows the 2 tape drives, and the library. When I try to discover these devices in NetBackup using the storage wizard, it only finds the robotic library, and lists the 2 drives as "unused element address". I have seen this happen once before, but that was a probelm with an old NetApp that did not have tape config files for the newer LTO5 drives. This is a new NetApp that already has the HP and IBM LTO5 drive tape config files. And the NetApp detects them successfully anyway. Any ideas why NetBackup does not? We verified that ndmp is ON, and the account name and password should be good, otherwise it would detect nothing at all. I can even unplug the fibre, and run the wizard again, and it detects nothing, so I know that is all working correctly.Solved4.3KViews2likes11CommentsNetApp Snapvault... Wildcards?
I know that wildcards in NDMP backups is a new thing... I'm running 7.6.0.3. We have just started using a new netapp snapvault, and it doesn't seem to like wildcards... but I can run a backup without a wildcard, and it's fine. Is this because it's a snapvault?
