Upgrading Multiple 5220 Appliances
I have the following upgrade scenario with NBU and 5220 appliances, and am wondering how much of this I can perform concurrently. Windows 2008R2 Master Server - recently upgraded to NBU 7611 - all OK 5220 Media Server 1 (72TB) - 2.5.3 5220 Media Server 2 (36TB) - 2.5.3 I am moving the appliances to 2611 and am wondering do I have to stop all activity on Master and both appliances and upgrade them consecutively or can I stop all activity and upgrade the two appliances at the same time ? They are both Media ONLY, and the Master is already at 7611 so there should be no version issues. Thanks, AJ.Solved1.9KViews1like8CommentsNetBackup Appliances 2.6.1.2 is now available!

Hi, We are running several NBU 5230 Appliances (Current version 2.6.1.1) From support we have heard that our (RAID) firmware and BIOS levels are not current. My questions: What RAID firmware should we be running? What BIOS level should the 5230 units have? Do disk firmware levels also need updating and what level should they have? If RAID firmware is updated, should drivers be running a certain version as well? If yes, what version is best? Where can we obtain these updates? If we would go to 2.6.1.2, will any firmware/BIOS levels be updated during the upgrade process? (Probably not, I suspect) Has anybody performed these upgrades and encountered any issues? Thanks for any help! FredSolved7.6KViews0likes8CommentsUnable to download patches
Hi, We have a 5230 running 2.6.0.2 and are trying to install more recent patches on it. The first available patch isSYMC_NBAPP_update-2.6.0.3-1.x86_64.rpm. When we check the DownloadProgress, it says its stopped. Any ideas why this would be so? Thanks. FozzieSolved694Views0likes1CommentRe-Image Netbackup Appliance 5230

I have enabled the incoming_patches share on the NetBackup 5230 appliance, but I cannot open it. I am unable to authenticate, even though I know that I am entering the correct username and password. What is the domain that should be supplied in the login credentials if ldap authentication is not enabled on the appliance?Solved3.6KViews0likes3CommentsNetbackup Appliance 2.6.1.1 Mail Issues FIXED
The Mail Issues that everyone is having with netbackup appliance is fixed in 2.6.1.1, but 2.6.1.2 breaks the email fix. Has anyone else experience this Has stated in their release notes SMTP server settings for appliance notifications Starting with NetBackup Appliance 2.6.1.1, all email notifications that get generated by the appliance use the same SMTP settings. These emails include hardware monitoring notifications and NetBackup job notifications. The configuration settings are located under Settings > Notification > Alert Configuration in the NetBackup Appliance Web Console or Main_Menu > Settings > Alerts in the NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu. These settings override any previous SMTP setup you may have previously used to send NetBackup job notifications. Note: If you had already configured the appliance SMTP settings before you upgraded to NetBackup Appliance 2.6.1.1, you may need to re-save the configuration in order for NetBackup to use it. In the NetBackup Appliance Web Console, go to Settings > Notification > Alert Configuration and click Save. Or in the NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu, go to Main_Menu > Settings > Alerts and resubmit the SMTP and SenderID settings.776Views0likes0CommentsAppliance and OpenSSL POODLE vulnerability...
Hi, does anyone know what we can do to mitigate this: Found this: http://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/new-openssl-vulnerability-could-facilitate-dos-attacks …which links to this Poodle article: http://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/poodle-vulnerability-old-version-ssl-represents-new-threat …the POODLE wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POODLE#External_links …the US-Cert page re POODLE: https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/alerts/TA14-290A …the OpenSSL Org related advisory: https://www.openssl.org/news/secadv_20141015.txt …which suggests that users of SSLv3 should upgrade: OpenSSL 1.0.1 users should upgrade to 1.0.1j. The Symantec N5230 Appliance running Appliance v2.6.1.2, reports its OpenSSL version as: my-appliance:/home/maintenance # openssl version OpenSSL 0.9.8j-fips 07 Jan 2009 . We have NetBackup 7.6.0.4 running on Appliance 5220 ver. 2.6.0.4. Recently some resource issues forced us review the processes on one of the SQL cluster node and found the (see attached) nbostpxy.exe, each eating up 6% CPU utilization. I stopped the client services and killed all these threads manually. However, the next time back kicked in, the same threads appeared and peaked CPU utilization. I understand that this process is involved with deduplication processing on the client, but we are not running any client side deduplication. We have media server deduplication configured with Appliances 5220. Is this kind of bug, please share your thoughts.Solved1.9KViews0likes5CommentsFailed upgrade to 2.6.1.1 from 2.6.0.3 on 5230
Just attempted upgrading our 5230 appliance from 2.6.0.3 to 2.6.1.1 and after running for about 2 hrs or so, it failed with the following email: Command install_NB_rpm failed to execute. An UpgradeStatus command shows the following: The software upgrade process failed. The appliance is rolling back to a pre-upgrade state using the Pre-upgrade checkpoint! The following EEB's are installed on the appliance: ET3592475-2.6.0.3-1 ET3538035-2.6.0.3-1 After some searching, I ran into another post on the forums indicating an upgrade failure with ET3592475-2.6.0.3-1 installed. I have found the following article which indicates an updated version of this EEB. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH223591 It's a little unclear whether the new version ET3592475-2.6.0.3-2 actually resolves issues preventing the upgrade or not. I have also opened a case with Symantec Support who have also indicated that a new version of the EEB may resolve the issue. I'm actually very surprised more people haven't run into this yet.Solved1.7KViews0likes4Comments
