NIC Teaming Slow Throughput, any ideas?
Hey guys, We currently have 2Gig set up through NIC teaming for our backup exec setup. When we have backups running, it barely reaches 35-40% of the bandwith. I am using Backup Exec 2010. Has anyone else here set up NIC teaming before? What are some things that might cause slow performance? Are there any specific settings in Backup Exec that may help? Thanks!5.1KViews3likes9CommentsBackup Exec 2014 (or 2012) AWS Storage Gateway problems
I need assistance from someone who has successfully implemented the AWS Storage Gateway-VTL in either Backup Exec 2012 or in Backup Exec 2014. On the AWS site, it shows that BE 2012 is a supported application for their Storage Gateway-VTL. On the Key feature list for BE 2014 is shows that AWS Storage Gateway is supported. I have not been able to get the VTL to work properly in either. The problem I am having is that the robotic library (an STK L700) shows up, all 10 of the tape drives show up (ULT3580-TD5), but the drives are not listed under the library. There are drives under the library, but they are all in red and have a "missing device" error. I have tried for the last 3 days to work with Symantec support to resolve this. They claim that the library is support and the drives are supported, but the drives are not support inside of the library. They provided links to the HCL for both BE 2012 and BE 2014 to prove their point. So, I asked them why their key new feature matrix for 2014 show support for AWS Storage Gateway and the setup documentation in AWS shows a screenshot of the drives under the library in BE 2012. They didn't have an answer for this. They are now telling me that instead of working with me to resolve my issue, they are instead working with the marketing group to remove support for AWS from the feature list. WTF?!? The support group is either unwilling or unable to connect me with the product team so that I can get some clarification on what components of the Storage Gateway is supported (besides the VTL, there is also a disk based gateway). So, if anyone out there has successfully connected their BE installation to the AWS Storage Gateway I would greatly appreciate it if you shared the "secret sauce". Thanks, ALM2.9KViews1like21CommentsInstalling BE on Hyper-V
I was wondering if someone can point me to a good document on how to go about installing BE on a Microsoft 2008 R2 Hyper-V host. The host server has of course the Hyper-V host, as well as four other virtual machines (Exchange, Terminal Server, SQL, as well as just a file server). I would like to find a document that talks about actual installation and best practices. Thank you for your help.2.9KViews1like7CommentsNetBackup - DataDomain (VTL) replication
Hi, Attached is a diagram of the backup environment. The back up of all the clients are performed in the local site, they're stored in the DataDomain (VTL). The historical backups are duplicated to tape and send them out. For the critical data, it is required to have a second copy of the backup. Due to the RTO established, it's not practical to save this second copy in tape and stored in a vault. So then, the second DataDomain (VTL) was installed in a remote site to replicate a pool of virtual tapes containing the critical backups. In the remote site, there is a media server to control the VTL. At this point, the second VTL is already configured like a storage unit and the virtual tapes are replicated and syncronized, but they can not be added because the duplicated media label. I'm exploring the idea to deploy a master server in the remote site to replace the media server... I need help to tie up the loose ends to make this solution works. Which could be the best way to integrate the DataDomain replication with NetBackup and take advantage of it with no need of new licensing? Btw,NetBackup is licensed per TB.2.2KViews1like6CommentsAmazon S3 offline this device has not been discovered correctly
I have backup exec 15 running. When I first installed, I was able to connect to amazon S3 and backup data to a bucket that I created. This worked for a few days. Then all of a sudden the Amazon S3 storage device says "offline this device has not been discoveredcorrectly and to restart services. I restarted services, rebooted, removed/re-added, etc - and I can't figure it out. Not sure if there's a network communiaction issue between my amazon instance and S3 or what. It seems my config is correct because I was able to get it working for a few days. If I remove and re-add it seems to connect as it finds my S3 bucket, but the storage just stays offline. Not sure how to diagnoise.2.2KViews0likes6CommentsBE2012 only uses 2 tape drives in Virtual Tape Library.
Background: Our BE2012 connected with physical and vitual tape library (8 drives), we backup the data to VTL daily and export the monthly backup set to physical tape. We've updated the BE2012 with Service 1a two weeks ago, everything goes fine. OS: Windows 2008 R2 Physical Library:Hewlett Packard MSL G3 Series Library. 2 slot Virtual Tape Library: DataDomain DD670, 8 drives No specific drives selected in all backup jobs, we checked all the drives in VTL. Issue: Last week, we encountered an issue about BE2012. the BE2012 only uses 2 drives only in VTL. Hence some of backup jobs keep queued and wait until the one of first two backup jobs completed. And the job status report "Ready no idle devices are available...." We've called the support last Friday, and they finally replied me yesterday, what they did is try to remove the Windows Driver "Hewlett Packard MSL G3 Series Library" and use "Unknown Medium Changer" under "Device Manager" AND send me an email about close this case! After checking backup job run on yesterday, the same issue happened. This morning, I've tried to remove that VTL, restart server again. BE2012 recognized the VTL and we configurated it again. When we try to inventory the tapes in VTL, the BE2012 inventory process still use 2 drives in VTL. Anyone have idea about this? Now we have to move two backup jobs which takes over 12 hour backup to BE2010 server, however, this is only a short term solution for us. BE2012 gives me a lot of time on troubleshooting and calling Symantec support. I miss BE2010!Solved2.2KViews0likes11CommentsBE2012 and HP Storeonce VTL Tape Offload
Hi, Put simply, can Backup Exec 2012 take from a VTL connected StoreOnce appliance and write to tape? Scenario - Site one (Head Quarters): 1. Write HQ data directly to tape from BE2012 This step would be used to store tapes off site. 2. Write HQ data directly to VTL from BE2012 This step would be used to replicate backup data to another StoreOnce appliance. *3. (See Site Two Step 1) Write DC data from replicatedVTL to tape from BE2012 This step would be used to store tapes off site, if possible using VTL to tape. Site Two (Data Center) 1. Write DC data directly to VTL from BE2012 This DC is unmanned; therefore replicated backup data will be sent to HQ StoreOnce where will be "offloaded to tape". If step 3 cannot be accomplished at Head Quarters then I need to restructure how the Data Center is storing the backup data to the StoreOnce appliance by using CIFS which can also be replicated then mounted to a BE2012 server and finally be written to tape. Input would be greatly appreciated and any documentation is helpful! Thank you, SteveSolved1.8KViews0likes9CommentsMail Alert for exchange servers
