Migrating EV from Windows 2012 to Windows 2019

gc_richard
Level 3

We are running EV 14.1 with SQL 2012 on the same Windows 2012 server, and we need to move to a new OS.

Need advice if this migration plan for EV and SQL to Windows 2019 and SQL 2019 is logical

  1. Phase 1 - Migrate SQL to new SQL 2019 server and run EV SQL move script
  2. Phase 2 - Migrate EV using EV settings migration wizard

thanks

Hello Richard,

It depends. If you use dns aliasses for EV/SQL/Storage, you could basically move the DB's to the new server, update DNS, off you go. Same for EV. There are several KB Articles available on how to do it.

For SQL, make sure the new SQL server uses the same collation as the existing one. If not, you will run into issue when upgrading to a newer version.

Soo (for example) This and This2 KB articles.

thank you for the reply and advice :)

we have moved the SQL databases to the new server, which is quite direct especially with the new SQL move script.

Next phase is to use the EV server migrator tool to migrate EV. Our only concern is the large EV store and index disks, hope our VM guy is able to do the disk detach/attach successfully during the cutover
