You have to install hotfix 6 for this.
Please refer to following technote in this regard:

How can someone perform a new install of Backup Exec 10d and attach to a SQL Server 2005 database?
Should you install to MSDE on the local machine and THEN apply the Hotfix? - I'm in the same situation. I have a new server that is being built to run Backup Exec. Given the improved performance and reduced footprint of SQL 2005 (not to mention the complaints from our DBA about each BUE update forcing a restart on our production SQL service), we would rather not install with SQL 2000 technology.
Is there any way to either install directly to SQL2005 (full or Express) or to install to SQL2000 initially, update and then migrate over to SQL 2005?
-We have tried installing 10d, updating to SP1 and then migrating to a SQL2005 installation using BEUtility. The App appears to crash out while attempting to switch the installation over to the SQL2005 db.
If it cannot be done now, when can we expect such functionality to be added to the product?Message was edited by:
Samuel Penning - Asma_TamboliLevel 6Hello,
Currently only backups of a SQL 2005 database is supported. Installation of Backup Exec on an SQL 2005 instance is not supported since it has not been explicitly tested.
Please revert in case you have any questions.
