recover old data from other backup exec versions
How can I recover backups made on an external HD via Backup Exec from 2017 to the end of 2020, considering that there have been version updates? At the moment, the only way to recover would be to install the most recent Backup Exec and hope to be able to inventory, catalog and restore? Should that work? From what I've seen in other cases where attempts to recover old backups were always on tape, and this seems to make it more complex than just a USB HD. Thank you in advance for your attention
Updating BE to ver 24-Firewall white list
Our internal network has blocked all internet except through a whitelist. I need a listing of what sites to open up so the internal BE server can "reach" the update server at Veritas and update itself. Support has been less than useful. (that's very kind) They keep giving me ports to open for backup jobs but that's LOL not what I"m doing. I just need the internel BE server to get to the BE Cloud device/server so I can update the program. Does anyone have any idea what I whitelist. Firewall traces are rather cumbersome and I've found no KB articles of any use. The product works fine I just NEED to update it.
Slow File Transfer Speeds in Veritas Backup Exec Job Rate
Hello everyone, I’ve been experiencing a noticeable slowdown in the job rate when using Veritas Backup Exec version 24 to back up data to disk. Initially, the backup job starts with a good transfer speed, but over time, it gradually slows down to around 10 MB/s. Has anyone else encountered this issue, or does anyone have suggestions on what could be causing this? I’ve checked the basics like disk space, network performance, and hardware, but I’m not sure why the speed deteriorates so much as the job progresses. Any insights or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Cannot mount the windows PE image (SDR creation)
I'm trying to create a new simplified disaster recovery (SDR) disk (on 2 machines, actually). I get the error, "cannot mount the windows PE image. You may have insufficient privileges for the storage location C:\Users\<account>\AppData\Local\Temp\SDRStaging" I'm even running Backup Exec logged in as the service account we use for Backup Exec, and I'm running BE as an admin. Thoughts? Server 1: BE Version 16.0, 1142.1659, Windows Server 2016 Server 2: BE Version 20.6, 1188.2718, Windows Server 2016
Problem - Ready; Backup Exec server not available
Hello there, I am duplicating old L6 tapes to L8 tapes for a few weeks without any issues. Few days ago I've prepared new duplication job and it's holding on status "Ready; Backup Exec server not available". I don't know what happened. I tried to re inventory tape, re catalog tape, restarting server - nothing help. I can see that some backup sets can be duplicated and some (most) showing mentioned error. I' am also adding screenshot. I hope someone met this problem and could help. Greetings, DamianHow do I delete IMG folders and contents?
It appears that the creation of an infinite number (up to the point of "drive full") of IMG folders (when using B2D to back up Exchange Server) is a known issue. Unfortunately, I have learned this only after creating 23 IMG folders of approximately 11 GB each. I cannot find a method within Backup Exec for deleting these IMG folders and when I attempt a manual deletion using Windows Explorer I get the error message "Error Deleting File or Folder - cannot delete ese.dll: Access is denied." I must get rid of these blankety-blank things before I run out of disk space. Based on the number of related posts I'm guessing somebody must've figured out an answer to this problem. I just can't seem to find it posted here. Thanks in advance.
LTO5 tape is showing incorrect capacity
Hi There, I'm new to this forum, I use Backup Exec 2010 with an IBM LTO5 tape drive and we have three tapes that are showing a capacity of 35.4gb. If I try to use them it does indeed become full after 35.4gb. I've tried a full erase and everything I can think of and they're stuck at this capacity. I know it's only 3 tapes, not the end of the world... But I'm really curious as to what has happened to them. They weren't new, I think they came with the drive and had been opened. Any insight greatly appreciated!
Backup exec remote agent service stuck in stopping state.
I have face the below issue many times. Operating systame - Windows 2008 or Windows 2008 R2. Backup Exec 2012 having SP 3 installed. Most of the time when we restart the backup exec services, that time "Backup exec remote agent service" get stuck in stopping state. And in this stage we fail to stop and then start the service. Even taskkill command also desen't work to kill the beremote.exe process. And in this situation every time we require to reboot the server and then we found all backup exec services in running state properly. Does any one have solution on this? Regards, Santosh Pawar.
