Backup Exec 12.5 x64 bit - Download

Does anyone know where I can download x64 bit Backup Exec 12.5 for Windows?

I am running a Windows Server 2008 R2 OS. I have tried BE 2010 and am not impressed so far at the backup to disk speeds, nor the scenario with backing up Netware (most of my data). I am trying to evaluate whether to leave my current BE 12.5 32-bit server in place or install 64-bit 12.5 on my new server. If BE 12.5 isn't going to work with 2008 R2, then I will probably use the server for an other purpose rather than move to BE 2010.

Does anyone have the binaries for 12.5 x64 ????

cheers,

  • You cannot use Server 2008 R2 as a media server for BE 12.5

  • Thanks AZC... I managed to get the files from Symantec support. Hopwever your link is correct, thanks.

I have installed BE 12.5 on my 2008 R2 server as a Media Server. I upgraded to SP4 straight off, and it seems to be working well so far. Backup to Disk speeds are not great though :(

  • It may working fine but if in case you come across any issue symantec will not

troubleshoot as Win2008R2 as a Meadi server is not compatible with BE12.5

  • I did ask them whether this was supported when on the phone, and the lady said yes. ie. Media Server will be 2008 R2 x64-bit, and that I need BE 12.5 for x64 bit. She said this was fine??? I was expecting that it wouldn't but was happy with her reply.

Been doing some backup to disk jobs since installing, and have not been impressed with the speeds.

    Server Spec:
    HP DL360 G7
    CPU - 2 x Intel Xeon X5650 @2.67GHz
    RAM - 12GB
    x64 Win 2008 R2 Standard Ed

    Backup to Disk Speeds

    12.5 x64 (of Srv1)- 500 MB/min

    2010 x64 (of Srv1) - 900 MB/min

    12.5 32-bit (of different server) - 1900 MB/min

Really had hoped for better results. Verify times are rediculously fast at around 10,000 MB/min.

Will be testing speed of backup of "different server" by my new x64 Win 2008 R2 BE 12.5 server tonight and see if speeds are better???

Sorry for getting slightly off topic :)

  • Yip. Definately there in black and white. Document was created October 2010.

I have evaluted the server and compared backup speeds, and this new server with Win2k8 R2 x64 and BE 12.5 is still slower than my Win2003 with 12.5. I may use this server for other purposes and keep 12.5 running another year.

    Thanks all for help.

  • Just note that with an unsupported configuration, you cannot open a support case with Symantec.
