Backup Exec, what would happen when data size over the tape quota

Hi All,

This maybe a stupid question to the senior users, my question is:

I'm using a tape machine (one tape slot) to backup my file server, the files are around 1TB, but the taple is LTO3 and only support 400GB(actually 370GB only).

So would be a indicator telling me to insert another blank tape to continue the job when the tape fully written?

Or I do afraid it only give you a error message that there's an error occurred and job cannot continue.

Thanks.

Jack.,

  • Hi

End of it it would ask to insert the media & you will be prompted with an alert

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH60486

reason for this alert is when the backup is spanning onto another tape.  When the backup spans to another media,it prompts for an Overwritable Media to continue backing up the resource(s).

    Thanks

  • There would be an alert to ask you to put in an overwritable tape for the job to continue. When you put in an overwritable tape and respond to the alert, the job will continue.  If a third tape is required, you will again be prompted for another overwritable tape.

  • Thank you above both, this could be a great answer for me as that's what I've been hoped for.

Now I'm running the backup job and will check the status later,
