    The VMware and the SQL backups must be scheduled in such a manner that the VMware job does not interrupt the SQL backup sequence. In other words, ensure the sequence of SQL Full + log backups complete...then run the VM backup...and then the SQL Full + log sequence again.

I would suggest you to perfrom a Full and Incremental backup of SQL databases only once a week, like lets say on Friday run the SQL Full followed immediately by the Incremental backup.

The above is assuming the VMware Full backup would start on Friday after the above 2 jobs have finished. This would allow you to acomplish both, the incremental backups success and backing up of transaction log which should remove the error/exception which gets generated otherwise.
