backup speed

Hi all,

Im tring to fix my backupspeed.

We are on BE 2012 with all updates. Im backing up 2012 Server.

Backup Server has two 1GB nics running as one teaming nic with 2 GB

Server 2012 is installed on vmware 5.5 with 4 1GB nics connected to one vswitch.

The Backupspeed is 300MB/min. If i try to transfer 2 GB file from 2012 to the backupserver just over network without BE2012 it need about 35sec. That is not perfect but pretty good.

So it seems to be BE2012 the issue but Im not sure why.

Trying to backup on disk is pretty the same, about 300MB/sec

Hope you can help me to solve it

Thanks!

  • Well, as you mentioned, disabling AV allows you to achieve good speed. This kinda rules out an issue with the BE software. Have a look @ these posts as well:-

  • By the way,

that is my first BE2012 Server. I see that the default settings for a backup is to use the changedate and not the archivebit. I have changed it back to archivebit now. Why is that not a default value anymore?

    Thanks guys

  • i have found the problem.

That is our AV (Sophos) on the fileserver. If i disbale the sophos on fileserver the speed is by abaout 4000MB/sec!

So I have excluded this: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\ on the fileserver.

but if i enable sophos with this exception the speed is still 300Mb/sec. Not sure what i have more to exclude?

    any idea?

  • sorry guys but it is not solved!

still looking for a solution the exception for the agent are not working only disabling AV is working.

But we can't disable Sophos AV! So what can i do? any idea?

    Thanks!

  • Try this KB - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH210790

If the KB doesn't work, then disable just the On Access scan feature and check.

If it still doesn't help, contact Sophos for further assistance on setting the exclusions.

  • Hi

i have allready set the exclusions but in doesn't help. And i can't diable On access scan and let the fileserver without AV.

PS. if i diable the on access the backup speed  is perfect 3000/MB min

I have allready contected sophos, sophos says it is a problem of symantec.

    it is so frustrating

    any idea?

  • ... because the modified time method is faster when doing incremental/differentials
