BackupExec 2010 R3, Pauses inside job between resources

After migrating to new Server with Windows Server 2008 backup jobs became more quickly but only for one time.

after investigation, I found that during job between resources such as disk "C" "D" "System state" "Shadow Copy Components" from same server, it make PAUSES...

not a pause between jobs or etc.. pauses inside job.

Do some one know where the problem is?

Previous weekends were not such delay inside job.

Also no errors or any information regarding backup in System Event log

  • Hi,

It would pause between resources, but not to that extent. Are you backing up to disk or tape?

    Thanks!

  • to Tape library ibm3100 with 2 drives LTO5

in that time period there was active job for second drive but there weren't any conflicts between drives.

as I can see, previous backup was without any delay and there weren't any changes made in jobs etc..

  • To rule out any conflicts between the two tape drives, stop all activities on the second tape drive and see what happens.

  • Hi we have exactly the same problem in Backup Exec 2012, I have 8 servers 4 of which are Virtual and running Windows 2008 R2. 7 of the servers backup without any issue to the same tape, one server takes up to 4 hours longer than it should, as during the backup of it and between drives it pauses and waits for about an hour before starting on the next drive. There is only one tape drive and one LTO 5 tape holds all the backups for all 8 servers. I've also tried changing this job to run at a different position in regards to the other servers, but that makes no difference. What could be causing this and how do I fix it?
  • I would like to push this as we have the same problem with BE2012 (fully patched) in a reeeeeeeally small environment.

Backup 80gb to tape takes around 1Day and 15hours because there is a large gap between ressource 1 and ressource 2. The tape and the drive are ok.

    What is causing this?

  • I take it no one from Symantec Support checks these, as it's two months since I posted this, we still have the problem and I have had absolutely no contact from Symantec.

  • ...Connect is a best-effort, community-based forum that just happens to have some Symantec engineers trawling the forums as well. If nobody has contacted you, then you should revert to logging an official call with Symantec to resolve the issue.

With no further engagement from any forumites either, you should assume nobody has an answer which might now be resolved by logging an official query.

If you do get a solution, please post back here with the details.

    Thanks!

  • We had a problem with backup times after a power cut.  Resetting the backup drive and drivers fix the problem but there was still a speed issue where a pause/gap happened between jobs causing the total backup time to double.  After opeing the job and selection lists, making a small change and saving, the job reverted back to their previous speed.

  • I am not aware that anything liek this has been offically reported to us and as craigV has already said the user community has nto been able to comment, then you shoudl resally log a formal support case for us to look into it.

However as a test - what happens if you backup the same servers to a disk storage device ?
