BackupExec: Which supported HBA for LTO 6 Tapedrive

Hi all,

i am checking the product compatability list:

https://download.veritas.com/resources/content/live/OSVC/100032000/100032805/en_US/be_16_hcl.pdf?__gda__=1520218721_2b05dccca9276a4bfe099bc1a8809377

in order to connect a Tandberg LTO 6 Tapedrive via a SAS HBA to Windows Server 2012 R2 OS. I do have the Tandberg supported HBA, LSI MegaRaid SAS9200-8e, but this one is not supported by BackupExec, according to the pdf linked above. In fact to me there are not that wellknown HBA listed at all.

Any hint if BackupExec will work with the LSI HostBusAdapter? As long as the Windows Server recognizes the Tapedrive, all should work out?

Thanks a lot in advance.

You are correct, Veritas does not list SAS or SCSI HBAs on the HCL since there are so many of them that work fine.

The link from Tandberg shows that this HBA works with tape, so you should be all set.

  • Using Google to search for "SAS9200-8e" I find https://docs.broadcom.com/docs/12353324.  This document does not state that the HBA supports RAID.  As long as an HBA isn't a RAID HBA, it is supported by Backup Exec.  Do you have a link to a doc from Tandberg that says this HBA supports tape?

I think you will be fine.
