Backward compatibility with Agent licenses

How far the Backup exec agent licenses are backward compatible? I know that all Backup Exec 12.5 license keys are supposed to be backward compatible with all Backup Exec 12.0 Options: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH68667

How this works with 2010? Can we install a 2010 SQL license in 12.5?

  • Hi,

Apparently you can, and you can always try this.

However, I'd simply contact the Symantec licensing department and ask for a BE 12.5 license. Since you own the BE 2010 license, they won't have any problems doing this.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks Craig for your reply. I guess then i can't install the license directly on 12.5 but the licensing department has to regenerate a different key! Is that correct?

  • Yes, the licensing department can generate a previous version license key for you.

If you still have a valid maintenance contract on your main product(s) you can also request them to upgrade the BE12.5 licenses to BE2010 and install that version.
