BE 2010R3 running slow

I've backed out all of the updates (including Office) and jobs are still running in the 120's. Maybe a coincidence with the updates. How can I identify the problem?

A couple of things you can try doing:

1. Restarting the server.

2. Make sure you are running the latest DDI package for the Symantec drivers for your tape drive. If you're running a robotic library/autoloader, make sure that the medium changer shows up as: Unknown Medium Changer.

3. Remove the BE updates you installed, and check the backup again.

4. restart the library.

5. Completely remove the library: delete the library from BE --> Devices, and Device Manager within Windows. Turn the library off, and disconnect from the server. Restart the server and allow to boot into Windows. Once done, turn it off again. Reconnect the library, turn it on and let it initialise, and once done, turn on the servers. Install the Symantec drivers again and then check the backup performance.

6. If you updated your media server, run a push-install for any remote servers you might have.

I have restarted the server as some of the updates required it.

I'll attempt the other suggestions over the weekend as I can't bounce the server that many times during the week.

we have got the same problem since we installed updates on the 14th.
It dropped from 4700 to 2400

we have installed on he 14th:

we did not do any symantec updates, because live updae does not work, and i cant find where to download a new version of live update

we did all 6 points now and we have installed SP2 for BE2012R2 and all following updates.

The Backup is still running slow. What else can we try?

Hi,

You can remove LiveUpdate from Add/Remove Programs and then reinstall it from your BE installation DVD.

That said, it might be long-winded, but if you didn't have an issue before installing those patches, remove them 1 at a time and check the backup speeds.

Ok, I was able to restart the server numerous times over the weekend. I put in the DVD and did an installation repair. A test backup showed an increase from the 120 to about 1400 but it was a small test job. I then reinstalled all the MS updates again, test job still in the 1400's. Last nights full job is now back in the 3700's.

It appears that one of the updates, and possibly the one msmiso also has, corrupted or damaged something in the process. After the installation repair and reinstalling the MS updates however things seem to be back to normal. At least the one job so far.

As for the BE patches, in my case they were installed after the performance drop.

We die the same as Costas,

we uninstallaed all windows updates, reinstalled them and did a repair install for BE and installed all BE updates.

the speed raised from 2.600 to 3.600 after this for 3 days, then it dropped back to 2.600 without any changes made.
the job was always runnig at 4.800 for more than a year without problems (LTO-4 Tape drvie)

had the same problem after last update. It looks like the last sp changed the

network interface to "use any available network interface". we used a specific one,

because tape-library is connected via fc.
