Catalog Error: V-79-57344-33994 - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.

Hi all

I want to catalog a tape from last January, because there is no content in the catalog (Restore job - choose right date - no content!)

After 20 minutes running I receive the error message:

Final error: 0xe00084ca - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.
Final error category: Backup Media Errors

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33994

Catalog
An inconsistency was encountered on the storage media in LW1_Wechsler4.

V-79-57344-33994 - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.

I tried it with several different tapes.

Software:

BackupExec 2010 R3 with SP2, Hotfix 180429/176937

Can someone help me?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi

First of all please update if catalog is failing in 20 min then is it failing with byte count or with O byte count.

Also would like to suggest check the statistic of tape drive and tape which is been cataloged and in statistic look for hard read ,write error if there are any please clean tape drive once

Also you can duplicate data from tape to disk as this would recreate the catalog and data would be written to disk and see how that goes and if that fails too with byte count then could be an issue with data on tape which would be corrupted .

Lastly if you don't I intend to duplicate backup on disk you can try the steps in order given in link below and see if that helps

    Thanks

  • you can duplicate data from tape to disk as this would recreate the catalog

How can he duplicate to disk when he cannot see any backup sets???

  • I've a little update:

The restore and cataloge is from a LTO5 tape.

    Now I tried it with a LTO3 and 4 tape -> successfull!

There is a problem with our LTO5 tapes... We have 3 LTO5 tape loader. I also tried to cataloge a tape from loader 1 to catalog it in loader 2 and 3 etc.

  • Could it be that loader 2 and 3 are LTO4 tape drives and not LTO5 tape drives?  This will account for their inability to read LTO5 tapes.

  • We have total 7 loader. One LTO3, 3 LTO4 and 3 LTO5.

    I tried to catalog LTO3 tapes in a LTO3 loader - successfull.

I tried to catalog a LTO5 tape in every LTO5 loader with no success.
