Deleting specific files from Deduplication storage folder

Hi everyone,

someone asked me this question last week. It concerns files that need to be completely deleted from our network for legal reasons. He asked me if I can remove any trace of those files from my backups as well...

I'm actually running backup exec 2012 sp1a with deduplication storage folder. It's actually doing a full backup every friday and an incremental every day of the week. It is in a CASO environment with two managed server.

Is this possible? So far I looked for that on the internet and didn't find anything... personnally I would say at first that it's not possible but I decided to give it a try here because giving my conclusion to this person.

Thank you

Mike

  • No.  You cannot remove a single item from a backup set.  You got to delete the entire backup set.

  • In BE 2012 the Backup sets should be deleted and that will remove the bkfs, OST media from file system.
