Directory was not found or could be accessed.

We have a Server 2012 standard running Backup Exec 2015. Last night I have been getting this error a lot. I've encountered this before but It just seems to vanish and clear itself on it own and backups return to normal.

What is the cause and what can be done to remedy the issue? I can still see all these files on the server but for some reasone BE can't find them or access them.

V-79-57344-41488 - Due to one or more errors in \\Server.local\D:, this backup cannot be used for conversion to virtual machines, Simplified Disaster Recovery (SDR), or a complete online restore.
Directory User Shares\userA\ was not found, or could not be accessed.
None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

  • You should turn on AOF on your job which usually get rid of this kind of problems.

Also you appear to have selected shares.  You should not select shares. Otherwise, you would be backing up the same data twice.  You should just backup the underlying directories and not the shares.

You can avoid this mistake by turning off the selection of shares. Click on the BE button ---> Configuration and Settings ---> Backup Exec Settings and under Network and Securit, uncheck the user shares option.

  • if the folder in question no longer exists then it is a selection list issue (use the details view of the selection list to see the actual text entries that make up the job.

If the folder or file does exist, then are you getting any VSS errors at the time (in the event logs)

Also if this happens during a system state backup and not a drive letter backup it could be bad/poor entries in the registry relating to how drivers were first installed
