Does "Overwritte Protection" mean "you can not writte to the media during next XXX days." or "you not overwritte the written data before XXX days."

Does "Overwritte Protection" mean "you can not writte to the media during next XXX days." or "you not overwritte the written data before XXX days."
You cannot overwrite for XX days. Appending is controlled by the Append period.
Does "overwritte protection" protect the data in the media or the media?
The tape media. Because tape is sequential, it is an all or nothing protection. Basically protecting hte tape media protects the data on the media.
