Remote Agent is scene but not the SQL part.

Hello,

We have a central BackupExec server with a local database.
We have an agent on a remote server with sql where we can see the remote agent and and the hard drives, however we cannot see the SQL install on that SAME server. So we are unable to back IT up. What we do see for the SQL agent is the LOCAL backupexec msde2000 install for backup. But that is not the sql install we want to backup.

It is on a DMZ type zone but we have port 1000 open to it in both directions. All servers are running win2k3 with sp1.

Why can we see the agent and the drives which was user defined it is off the domain, but not the SQL install for backup.

Thank you,

CB

  • Try this on the remote server.

Also make sure the account you attaching as has enough right to the sql instance
  • I have checked the credentials. They TEST fine. I added the remote install by User defined parameters but I think this should be ok.
  • Another question that I have is. Do I need to have 2 agent licenses to see both SQL versions or because we only have one license will I see two but only be able to select one.

    Thanks.
  • 1 agent license will do.

Did you enable "Enable media server TCP dynamic port range" ???

  • Hello,

you will need one SQL agent license per SQL server.

NOTE : If we do not receive your reply within two business days, this post would be marked assumed answered and would be moved to answered questions pool.
  • I have to give the credit to Steve O. He pointed me in the right direction. The windows 2003 sp1 Restrict anonymous access registry hack did the trick. =)

    * I ONLY made the change on the remote server. The BEUtility change for new media server checkbox I did NOT touch or any other registry.
    1) Stopped the remote BE agent service on the win2k3 sp1 computer.
    2) Made the registry change to the Restrict Anonymous Support DWORD Key.
    3)Restarted the remote agent service.

    As outlined here:

Thank you Steve O and all.
