Restore the particular public folder (E2K3)

Dear Support,

Currently, we have an Exchange 2003 Server (its NOS is Windows 2003 Server) and we always backup all mailboxes and public folders using Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 Rev 4691.

Now, some items in our public folder are missing and we would like to restore the particular public folder from tape. Yet, we always fail although we have followed the instruction in seer.support.veritas.com/docs/244897.htm.

Could you help us to solve our problem? Should we unselect the No Loss Restore option in Exchange Tab (step no 8)

Thank you in advance and looking forward to your reply.

  • Hi,

What is the exact error in job log?

When the No Loss Restore option is selected, the existing transaction logs on the Exchange server are preserved. Transaction logs on the storage media are then restored and added to the existing set of transaction logs on the Exchange server. When the restore operation finishes and Exchange services are started, Exchange automatically updates its databases with the uncommitted transactions found in the existing and newly restored transaction logs.

By deselecting the No Loss Restore option Backup Exec will not attempt to consolidate the transaction logs currently on the Exchange server with the transaction logs restored by Backup Exec. This will allow the restore operation to overwrite the transaction logs currently on the Exchange server, eliminating the need to consolidate transaction logs. When the restore operation finishes and Exchange services are started, only the transaction logs restored by Backup Exec will be committed to the Exchange databases.
