- tejashree_BhateLevel 6Hello,
Disable Removal Storage service: Please refer to the following technote:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/231679.htm
From the hardware compatibility list given below check if your device is tested and if it is tested then install latest Veritas drivers.

Is it the normal process to leave this service disabled for regular useage, and if so what other clues/documentation exists to state that this is recommended/required for NORMAL usage of the product, Backup Exec.
- Jim_BollingerLevel 4By the way, you cannot add new storage hardware to a server with RSM turned off, the server won't finish booting.
- Amruta_PurandarLevel 6Hello,
On the media server, you can allow Removable Storage to share the devices in robotic
libraries between two or more applications, or you can allow some or all devices in robotic
libraries to be controlled and used exclusively by Backup Exec’s Advanced Device and
Media Management (ADAMM). If the device is enabled for Removable Storage through
the robotic library’s Properties, Backup Exec uses Removable Storage for device and media operations; if
the Enable Removable Storage option is cleared, Backup Exec controls the device
directly.
If you do not need to share the devices, exclusive use by Backup Exec will allow faster
tape backups and restores.
We hope this helps. However if you are facing any hardware issues it may be necessary to disable RSM for troubleshooting purposes.

If you have trouble with your tape library, most of the hardware vendors for robotics will first of all ask you to disable RSM - no matter what backup software you are using.
Besides - most of the time people can not answer the question why they do need to have RSM running ?
Mostly just because it is activated by default.

uz - Renuka_-Level 6Hello Georges,
Can we have an update on the current status of the issue, do you still require help?
NOTE : If we do not receive your reply within two business days, this post would be marked assumed answeredand would be moved toanswered questions pool. - We have been experiencing this problem for the last month, and none of the above advice seems to help resolve the situation. Any advice would be appreciated.
Details:
Windows 2000 running Exchange 5.5. Veritas BE 8.50 Rev. 3571.
Nothing will run including Inventory. Device is reported as operational and not paused. Any attempt to execute a job causes it to be pending and eventually put on hold. - DURAND_REMILevel 2Hi all,
