Multipathing with Veritas Storage Foundation Basic

Hi,
I Installed Veritas Storage Foundation Basic but the multipathing driver doesn't work
:

Any idea

Thank you in advance

  • Hi Patrice,

SFW-Basic does include DMP.  If you are using SFW-Basic, I'm going to guess that you have installed it on Windows 2008 and not Windows 2003.

With Windows 2008 you need to install the DMP Feature for the SFW-Basic DMP option to work.

With Windows 2003 the installation of SFW-Basic DMP installs the Windows DMP components.

You might also want to install the newest DDI package.  It is call 5.1 SP1 DDI1 and is available at:  http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/352031.htm

    Thanks,
    Wally

  • Multipathing (DMP) is not included in SF Basic.

    See this Product Info URL:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/products/licensing.jsp?pcid=pcat_storage&pvid=31_1

    Options

The following options are separately licensed and are available on each OS level. Support for MSCS is only available on Advanced Server/Enterprise and Datacenter.
    • Dynamic Multipathing (DMP)
    • FlashSnap
    • Volume Replicator
    • Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS)

Also have a look at the SFW datasheet : http://eval.symantec.com/mktginfo/enterprise/fact_sheets/b-sfw_DS_11851184.en-us.pdf

    See 'Packaging' on page 5.

  • Thanks for the correction, Wally. Is there any documentation with DMP support info for SFW Basic?

Patrice,See if MPIO is installed under Windows features.

If not, you have to remove the DSM modules, reboot, install Windows MPIO, reboot, ensure one path only connected to storage, install DSM, reboot, reconnect other paths, rescan!!!

Best to ensure only one path to storage exists until MPIO and DSM are installed.

  • Thanks a lot for your responses

I am under windows 2003 so I can not add/install/uninstall Microsoft MPIO drivers.

    I done :
    - Installation of SFW Basic
    - Reboot
    - Blue Screen
    - Boot on safe mode
    - Uninstall of IBM Subsystem Device Driver Device Specific Module (SDDDSM)
    - Reboot
    -> No mulitptahing

    - Reinstallation of SFW Basic
    -> No mulitptahing

As I understand Veritas multipath drivers should replace SDDDSM ?

    Thank you in advance

  • Hi Patrice,

SFW's DMP can be used instead of the SDD.  There are some issues with running them both at the sametime but from your description you have uninstall SDD then uninstalled/reinstall SFW's DMP.  This should have corrected any compatiblity issues with having SDD installed then uninstalling it.

Have you verified everything that you are running is on the HCL and that you are running the latest patchs from Microsoft for the OS and storport.sys.  If so then I would advise you to open a support ticket on this so that Symantec Technical Support can take a detailed look at your configuration to determine what is happening here.

    Thanks,
    Wally
