All media are full(Status = unable to allocate new media for backup, storage unit has none availabl)

The tapes in the AIR-Pool (LTO 5) are all full.

The latest tape that is about to expire will not expire until December 27th. Any suggestion to do with it?

In addition, there are 5 tapes with blank "Time Assigned" in the NetBackup pool (LTO 7).

Can they be moved to the AIR-Pool for use?

Thanks for help.

  • You can move some of the unassigned tapes in the NetBackup pool to the AIR pool.

Just be mindful of usage patterns for NetBackup pool to ensure that there are tapes available should new (unassigned) tapes be required.

Best to have a Scratch Pool where all new and unassigned tapes are moved to. This way, any pool that needs new media can draw from this pool.

  • Hello

It is time to purchase new media?? ;)

Well if this field is blank you can move these tapes to scratch pool (or any other volume pool) - if a tape is assigned it will not let you move it.

Also I would try this report from NetBackup/Management/Reports/Tape report/Tape summary

or the same using cli bpmedialist -summary

you can try to run as well available_media script which is somewhere in goodies directory

I notice that you do have a Scratch pool.

Best to move all unassigned tapes to Scratch. You need to do this once for all tapes when they expire.

From there onwards, expired tapes will automatically be returned to Scratch.

        Hi Marianne,

How do I change the tape to unassigned?

        Thanks for your help.
