Cant add media server

Hello all

Environment

Netbackup 7.1

OS: Redhat 2.6

Hi dear friends

We are trying  to add media server to the master server..

As per guide we installed the netbackup software to new media server.  (We installed many times before))...but this one is really problem)

We scanned, all media is available... detected robots.

But from master server,  Storage unit list we couldnt see the new media servers robot...

From GUI configure storage wizard is not working ...  by command line we tried to do smth..

No results.. Any idea

    Check mark "Allow multiple retentions per media" in master server host properties.

    NO, NO, NO!!!!!! 

    This resolves problem in the short term but creates major issues in the long run.
    A tape with some daily backups and short retention (e.g. 2 weeks) that is mixed with long term (e.g. 5 year) retention cannot be re-used when daily backups expire - only after ALL backups have expired can tapes be re-used.

    does your media server listing in below command when you run from the Master?

    nbemmcmd -listhosts

    did you add the Media server name in Master bp.conf(for unix) registory key for windows?

    ofcourse we added..

    by nbemmcmd -listhosts.. showing new mediaserver...but no robots in storage unit lists(((

    so did you configured the same Drives and robots to another Media server..( does the Drives are sharing with Multple media  servers?

    if yes.. did you install the SSO license on the Media server?

    As Nagalla said, make sure you have the media server name in bp.conf on the master and the master server name in bp.conf on the media server.  You can also verify that the netbackup GUI has the media server listed in the server properties window, refer to DOC3650 page 193. if its not there then page 195 gives you the steps to add it.

    Sounds like comms problem betweem master and new media server.

    Have you verified forward and reverse name lookup between master and media?

    Have you verified that port 1556 is open in both direction between master and media?
    Have you checked that OS firewall (iptables) is disabled on media server?

    Please show us output of the following commands on the master server:

    nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose

    nbemmcmd -getemmserver

    Point out in above command outputs which one is the new media server.

    We solved the wizard problem by deleting some unusable media servers from emm... Now wizard is working... After that we added the media server successfully... Now it is okay writing...

    But we met with another problem...))

    We should take the backup to volume pool, named BO_archive..But we getting following error.

    Error nbjm (pid=31633) NBU status: 96, EMM status: No media is available
    unable to allocate new media for backup, storage unit has none available  (96)

     

    But with another volume pool, it is working properly..

    What is the problem with BO_archive??...Because another media servers working with this normal..

    problem was solved ...

    The all policies which are on Volume Pool BO_archive are owning retenion period more than 1 year.

    We changed our test policy retention 1 year..than it started to work....

    Now we didnt analyze why that volume pool is like that..If I find smth , I will share with you..Thanks..

    Hi,
     
    I beleive, no fresh media available in the BO_archive pool.
    And the media that are available are already have a data written with retention period of 1 year, due to which it only goes successful for 1 yr retention backup.
     
    Try to put some fresh/blank tape media, and try to backup again.
     
    Or enable multiple retentions per media.
    Check mark "Allow multiple retentions per media" in master server host properties.

    Thanks for the assistance.
    And that is very correct, and is the reason I gave this in optional after "or".
     
    Priority is to have some fresh tapes, so that they may have get the data written with new retention.

Hope this way would resolve the issue.
