Catalog migration - procedure

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade my NBU Master and Media Server which is on version 7.7.1 in AWS to the new version 8.1 also in AWS.

Anyone knows the exact procedure / steps for me to migrate the NBU catalog to the new version 8.1?

Regards.

Migration and upgrade are 2 independent steps.

To migrate to another server, you will install the same NBU 7.7.x version on the new server, using the same hostname as current master server. Then you will perform catalog recovery from old server onto new server.

    See :
Using catalog backup and recovery to transfer NetBackup catalogs between Windows master servers as part of a hardware refresh :

Once NBU is running fine on new server, start planning NBU upgrade to 8.1.x.

  • It sound that you want to upgrade from 7.7.1 to 8.1, right?

Rather upgrade straight to the latest NBU version - 8.1.2.

Upgrade steps should be no different to on-prem upgrade.
Please have a look at the Upgrade Portal :
    8.x Upgrade portal

Be sure to read though all the docs referenced in the upgrade portal - 'SORT', NBU Upgrade Guide, etc.

Thanks Marianne . So let me just confirm. I still need the new master server to be same NBU version (7.7.1) first before I upgrade to NBU 8.1 so that I can migrate the NBU Catalog right?

NBU upgrade is a 1-step process.
When you start the 8.1.x installation, it will detect the current 7.7.x version and start the upgrade of the software and the catalog.
The catalog will be upgraded, not migrated.

We use the term 'migrate' when we want to move the NBU installation to another server.
