  • As per Douglas's excellent post:

VMware policy type will allow you to use the new features and integrations that will come in the new versions of NBU.

If you compare these 2 policy types in NBU 7.1 VM Admin Guide (Flashbackup) and NBU 7.5 VM Admin Guide (VMware), you will clearly see the difference.

With VMware policy, you have a new VMware tab where new features can be selected - such as Exchange/SQL/Sharepoint integration.

  • Obviously the first thing is the NBU version.

Flash backup is meant to utilize the snapshot features in NBU, in the original integration of the VM type backup this was the easies to use so it was implimented to be the policy type for VMware.

IN the newer versions of NBU, a VMware policy type was created which allows more flexability with how the VMware backups can be done. Basic options and reporting methods to vmware that were just not able to be implimented using the flash backup policy.

You can use both and get for the most part a completely identical backup and recovery, however going forward a conversion to the VMware policy type will allow you to use the new features and integrations that will come in the new versions of NBU.

  • we are at NBU level 7.5.0.4 version.

Which one you would prefer and reason please ?
