Netbackup 6.5.6 nbemm not starting

Our backups have suddenly stopped working and i am unable to get back into the software. It looks like the catalog backup failed and the nbdb.log file grew and size which filled the limited space we have left on the C:/

I followed the instructions from here - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH72780 but when i get to the part where it asks you to run 'nbdb_admin -auto_start NONE' i get 'No database information exists in vxdbms.conf.'

I follow this article - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH71702 but get the message 'C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin>create_nbdb -config_only
Database server is NB_OF-UK1-BCKP-03
Ping server failed -- Database server not found.
Ping server failed -- Database server not found.
Database server [NB_OF-UK1-BCKP-03] not available.'

Hoping someone can help.

Regards,

Chris

  • Try to rename existing vxdbms and retry the command:

    create_nbdb –config_only -force

Please do not copy & paste the command as the '-' is sometimes changed to a longer 'dash' which makes the option invalid:

    create_nbdbconfig_only -force

is not the same as :

    create_nbdb -config_only -force

    Hope this helps.

If the above still does not work, your only other option seems to be a catalog restore...
