netbackup licensing requirement

Hello

we have 4 physical window 2012 servers in a cluster ( 2 servers per cluster) hosting 3 oracle databases each  . Those servers need to be backed up by one netbackup instance. On our DR site we have two servers needing to be backed up by one instance of netbackup server.  Both sites have tape libraries with two drives.

i wanted to check with you which netbackup licences i need to purchase

2 NetBackup enterprise master server licenses

2 tape libraries licenses

4 database client licenses ?

regards

Luc

  • Netbackup has 2 licensing models

    1) capacity based model

    2)traditional model

capacity based model work based on the amount of data(one full backup) that you are planing to take , does not matter what feature that you are using, it will support.

traditional model  work based on the features that you are planning use and license will be provided for each freature.

i would suggest you to reach out the local seller or lincecing team to understand it and see which modle will come for less cost.

  • so if you choose transitional model, you need:

    for production

    1 NetBackup enterprise server license
    2 library tape drive license
    2 client license
    2 database license

    for DR

    1 NetBackup enterprise server licenses
    2 library tape drive license
    2 client license
2 database license, if you will perform oracle backups at the DR

You can change the NetBackup enterprise server licenses with NetBackup server licenses (cheaper option ).

But, you really have to talk with a local seller or symantec presales, as RamNagalla mentioned,  to get accurate prices as there are other factors that affect prizes.

  • The oracle clusters are active/pasive, active/active or rac? Or to refrase, will you use both clustered systems for backups?

Your DR servers are in production or they are in standby mode (no active data) ?

the servers at the DR are clustered? Do they run any database?

  • Hi Stefanos

Each of the oracle cluster is in active/passive mode ,  the DBs on the DR data centre  are on standby mode(getting constant feed from PDC) , the DR servers are  not clustered . so basically we have one stanby DB per cluster

    Thanks
