Netbackup Not seeing all slots in tape drive

Currently I have 2 tape drives connected to master server with a total 48 slots. When running an inventory on Netbackup it only sees 40 tapes. I am getting this issue when running inventory. 

 

Processing new media added to the robotic library by logically adding media with new media IDs as follows
 
Media ID A00001 slot 40
7.1.x and Earlier
Backup and Recovery
NetBackup
Solaris

    I have ran robtest

     

    However I now have an issue when in netbackup I am running Inventory on robot and it is not completing.

     

    I know the discussion has been resolved, but just a little additional info which you may find useful in the future.

    If you use robtest, don't forget to close it as soon as you've finished otherwise it can severly impact normal NB operations that require the use of the library - e.g. inventory can hang, jobs can fail if they require media to be un-mounted & new media mounted etc

    hi,

    what is your libray model, ?

    did you make a logical partion on the robot ?

    as suggested by Marianne,its best way to check frist with robtest..

    Ok thanks I have ran robtest and all slots are fine until I reach slot 40. I am using HPMSL4048 tape library unit. I can confirm when logging in directly to tape library unit that there is media in slots 40 through 48. So I guess the prob is on the server side. No I haven't made a logical partition on the robot.

    This is a hardware problem then and you need to look at this outside of NetBackup.

    So I guess the prob is on the server side.

    No - robtest is output of SCSI commands directly from the robot.

    The robot is reporting on 40 slots only.

    Seems there is some configuration problem on the robot for these slots?

    slot -1000 (addr 0) contains Cartridge = no

    What does 'scan -changer' show?

    So, the robot knows about all 48 slots. 

    There is something wrong with the way it addesses the last 8 slots.

    Please log a call with your hardware support team.

    The only command that is useful for troubleshooting this issue is robtest, which you have already run.

    As correctly explained by Marianne and revaroo the issue is the library itself, not NBU.

    You could install the MTX package (available from sunfreeware) which is the same as the mtx command found on Linux, and is able to access the library, working a bit like robtest - you will find exactly the same issue, you won't see the last 8 slots.

    Check on MSL4048 if these slots are set as 'reserved' slot. Host application can not access reserved slot.

    I have ran robtest and I can see all 48 slots in the tape library unit. Not sure why it is reading all slots now as I haven't changed anything.

    However I now have an issue when in netbackup I am running Inventory on robot and it is not completing. There is no error being generated.
