Netbackup upgrade multiple clients to version 7.6.1.2

Hello,

Please help if you can.

Is there a way of upgrading 1200 servers to run the latest version of the netbackup client at the same time??

We have just upgraded our 5220 appliances to version 7.6.1.2 and i want to push the 7.6.1.2 client out to our enviroment at the same time, can this be done and how??

It is a windows enviroment only and there is no agent backups (sql or Oracle) running. The DBA team dont want to use the integrated agents so its all flatfile backups.

    Check with your windows team if they can build a package of NetBackup client and push sliently on these servers if your windows team usage any package deployer tool.

    If you have unix clients (& if you have UNIX master or media server) you can use the update_client command 

    update_clients -ClientList /tmp/client_details

    To update clients based on OS platform, run: /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/update_clients <hardware> <os>

    With an estate that large DG-2005 is likely on the mark if all 1200 clients are in a handful of Windows domains. If your 1200 clients are effectively BaaS clients with lots of use of firewalls, then LuveUpdate may be the way, but this may require ports to be opened which are ordinarily unacceptable in a BaaS environment. In which case your solution may require significant development time for scripting, which even if it takes 10 to 15 man days to develop and test, will at least be re-usable for the next mass upgrade.

    What version are most of the clients? I ask because 7.6.1.2 is a derivative of 7.6.1 - and so any upgrades from anything less than 7.6.1 will actually require two installs - namely 7.6.1 followed by 7.6.1.2 - sorry to say this, but depending upon your existing versions and existing constraints and/or tooling/approach then your workload may have just doubled to 2400 separate 'installation events'.

    LiveUpdate will do all versions in one go. Check for firewall ports in the documentation and talk to firewall admins. Totally worth it IMHO.
