Netbackup Vault configuration

hello..

  we are in process of vault setup [ have vault license :) ]  i read the vault admin guide but still  i have few questions can someone help me here pls

Question:

 1. if we want to go for a procedure like send original full backups to offisite [ offsite_pool ] , does it take it
    bec its original so i am curios the vault will eject those tapes or not ?
 
 2. is that ok to select catalog backup & eject in one profile ? if i select in one  profile how it process like
    eject job will wait until the catalog backup completed ?

    12,13,14,15,16, will get eject on 24th vault..

     

    as you are saying your vault stratigy to eject once in a week, I would say  to to with 30 days 0 hours to 7 days 0 hours.

    by any chage if you miss the images in any weeks vault , there is a chage to cover that image in nexy week vault whih this apporch.

    if you set 14days 0 hours to 7 days 0 hours, if you miss the vault for one tape due to any reason (tape busy or something), you will not get that tape in next week , because by that time that tape will be 14 days old, and vault will not conisider.

    so go with 30 days 0 hours to 7 days 0 hours.

    If you are using the duplication option to send the tapes to offsite_pool then tapes will be logically in the offsite_pool and then you can eject these tapes in the eject profile by selecting the offsite_pool. All the tapes from the offsite_pool will be ejected that way.

    Sure you can, just configure the eject job in such a way that catalog should be completed by then. You can schedule the eject job in such a way that it will run after catalog backup.

    Vault can eject any tapes controled by same robot, depends on the selections that you do on the First tab on the Vault profile.(backup between,cliets, mediaserver, schedule names, policy names etc) and the Volume pools that you select on the eject tab of vault profile.

    yes, if you select the catalog backup and vault profile in the same Vault Profile, first job will compleate the catalog backup, and then it will go for ejection process.

    thank you Sazz & Nagalla..

     what i understand from ur post is:

     

     we can send original full to offsite                                  - first question
     we can configure one profile for both vault catalog
     backup and eject then first vault backup completes then it will go for eject - second question

     

       i created a policy to run the profile which has vault catalog backup [ here i attach doc that profile  details ]  i don't why it taken more than 13 hours to complete , is that normal ?

     
     Also i try [ -preview ]  deferred eject manually for eject profile which has both offsite pool and vault catalog  backup pool it giving me an error that it doesn't have any eject tapes even though those pools have tapes

    I do see the eject option is checked so you are skipping the check, how you have setup your eject profile. Can you show us?

    How big is the catalog backup? How long does it take if you set it up without vault option?

    SAZZ is right, you did skip the eject option by selecting "skip the eject step" but you are trying to generate the reportes  that the reason you are getting the error,.

    could you also post the vault job detail status and the detail log of vault /usr/openv/netbackup/vault/reports<profilename>/<sid>/detail.log

    About vault catalog backup:

     
    Regular catalog full [ to Data domain - disk ] - /usr/openv/db/staging/DARS_DATA.db -->  1.4GB  43sec
                                                                   - CATALOG_DRIVEN_BACKUP              -->  229GB  3hr 14min
     
    Vault catalog  FULL  [ LTO4 tape ]             -   /usr/openv/db/staging/DARS_DATA.db  --> 6min
                                                                 - CATALOG_DRIVEN_BACKUP              -->  229GB  15hr 11min
     
    i am thinking rather sending vault to tape i configure this to disk and use slp to send this copy to remote site data domain.

    i attached here also i attach the policy which is configured to run this profile

    Netbackup version?

    From your description, it sounds like your vault is backing up the catalog directly to tape and that took > 15 hours?

    What if you configure in the vault to select the catalog backup from the disk (DataDomain) location by unchecking "skip duplication", "check "skip catalog backup"?

    Of course, using SLP is another option which you mentioned - but you will have to identify the catalog tapes for offsite.

    possilby sending directly to tape causing more time, but 15 hours is still to long.

    are you sending data to othermedia server tapes drives, or mater server server attached tape drives?

    how its perfroming with you send the regular catalog backup(not from Vault) to same tape STU? how much time its taking?

    you can always skip the catalog backup from the vault and go for ejection

    2 Corrections makes the difference..eject is workign now.

    1.. Eject policy: Backup selection cmd is vlteject not vltrun

     vlteject    -vault  xxx -profile xxxx

     2. Eject profile : even though backup type i kept as full i didn't put the schedules as full so once we change this its working fine.

    i have a question this might nothing to do with vault thing general Netbacup ( sorry if too many questions).

     

    i want to send all FULL backups to one offiste pool so is there anyway i can minimize the tapes which 
    can be used for clients full backups ? my concern is we might ended up sending all 10% 40% 50% utilized tapes to offisite. like in TSM we have node or group collocation where backup server try to keep all nodes backups which are under that group in less number of tapes.
     
    i really appreciate if someone give me some directions how to acomplish this!!!!

    you can chage your vault profile backup selction between and to 

    someting like 7 days 0 hours to 4 days 0 hours.

    so your lastest assingned tape will have 4 days avaliable in library and can increase the chances of writing more data.--- but your backup data stays 4 days onsite which you need to consider.

    and also making backups without Mutistreaming.. --but it impacts backup run time.if the impact is considerable you can try.
