Problems installing nbu server on solaris10 sparc

Hi All,

Im just trying to upgrade a nbu client running 7.5.0.5 on solaris10 sparc platform to media server. According to Symantec installing over the top with the media server package was ok, so i gave this ago, everything looked ok until /usr/openv disk hit 100%. The sys admins have told me i cant get anymore space on that mount point.

So i uninstalled media server, and client from /usr/openv.

I then ran media server installation to a different mount point, i created etc, tmp, var, usr, as requested in that location and ran the install.

Installing NetBackup Server Software

NetBackup installs to the running root environment, by default.

You have chosen to install to an alternate root environment.

The alternate root environment must be mounted for access
and it must contain etc, var, usr, and tmp subdirectories.
For example, if you specify the alternate root path to be
/alt, then /alt/etc, /alt/var, /alt/usr and /alt/tmp
must exist.  NetBackup will be installed relative to /alt
rather than the default root path '/'.

Enter alternate root path (or q to quit): /u01/app/***** (* set only for forum)

Checking for pre-existing SYMCnetbp package.
Installing SYMCnetbp package.

Processing package instance <SYMCnetbp> from </orabackup/nbu_binaries/NetBackup_7.5_Solaris_Sparc64/solaris/anb/SYMCnetbp.pkg>

NetBackup and Media Manager(sparc) 7.5.0.0
## Software contents file initialized

NetBackup and Media Manager binaries will be installed in
        /u01/app/*****/opt/openv

NetBackup and Media Manager 7.5 will be installed.

Using </u01/app/*****/opt> as the package base directory.

Installing NetBackup and Media Manager as <SYMCnetbp>

## Executing preinstall script.
## Installing part 1 of 1.

The install then runs ok and comes up with this:

[ verifying class <NBclass> ]
## Executing postinstall script.

NOTE: After rebooting with /u01/app/***** as the running root,
        you must run /opt/openv/netbackup/bin/install_bp
to complete NetBackup and Media Manager installation.

Installation of <SYMCnetbp> was successful.
More details regarding SYMCnetbp can be found in file
/tmp/install_netbppkg_trace.3918 on **************.com.

It then starts adding in client binaries. (example below)

x openv/netbackup/client/Solaris, 0 bytes, 0 tape blocks
x openv/netbackup/client/Solaris/Solaris10, 0 bytes, 0 tape blocks
x openv/netbackup/client/Solaris/Solaris10/client_config, 79568 bytes, 156 tape blocks
x openv/netbackup/client/Solaris/Solaris10/cp_to_client, 79565 bytes, 156 tape blocks

pkginfo shows it hasnt installed SYMCnetbp

Anyhow i follow instructions and reboot and run - /opt/openv/netbackup/bin/install_bp
But then i get this error:

 ./install_bp

Unknown hardware type: "NONE".

Anyone have any idea's? This is nothing like the 7.5 install guide.

Thanks

Jay

  • Please remove software, reinstall, then say 'y' to this question:

Are you installing to the running root environment? [y,n] (y)

There is no need to create etc, tmp, var, usr in the new filesystem as there is no need to create an alternate boot environment.

Simply choose not to install NBU in /opt and specify installation path as /u01/app/ with symbolic link to /usr/openv.

There is no need to create etc, tmp, var, usr in the new filesystem as there is no need to create an alternate boot environment.

Simply choose not to install NBU in /opt and specify installation path as /u01/app/ with symbolic link to /usr/openv.

  • So would my link command be

    ln -s /usr/openv /u01/app/ ?

Then install and choose installation path as default?

  • You don't need to create the link.

NBU install script will do it automatically during installation.
    Accept 'running root environment'.

    After this question:

    You will see the following:

NetBackup and Media Manager binaries will be installed
in /opt/openv and a link will be created from /usr/openv
to opt/openv, if it does not exist.
    Is this okay? (y) [y, n,?, q]
To accept the default (y), press Enter.
To change the installation location, type n and press Enter.
    Then enter the appropriate destination.

(All of the above is explained in NBU Installation guide: http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5154 )
  • That didnt work, it failed on install.

I manually created a link to /u01/apps and had to recreate openv folder. Install then worked when specified /u01/app/openv as install folder.

Its now configured as media server and just putting on MP5.

    Thanks for your help.
