I need suggestion...Can i install netbackup client software other than /usr fs on solaris...i hav seen sometimes its been installed on /opt...but dont know how...i hav no space available on /usr...please suggest.
Please show us what you have done.
# cd /usr
# ls -l |grep openv
# cd /opt
# ls -l |grep openv
Make a link for /usr/openv to where you have space. So NBU will think it's being installed to /usr/openv

I want to install under /opt...what should be the command to do it ?

I have just listed the extract from the manual as well as exact commands to create the folder under /opt and then create the symbolic link.
The sym link is an OS 'trick' to make application believe it is installing in the link folder (/usr/openv) but installation files will go to /opt.
Once the sym link is created, you can go ahead and install.
Speak to you OS sys admin if you are not comfortable with OS commands/admin.
Please show us output of the following:
# cd /usr
# ls -l |grep openv
Oh! and /tmp seems way too small.

NBU needs temp space to exctract files while installing.

My bad ....this is solaris 5.8..very old..trying to install 6.5..lininking option is availble there in 6.5 too ?
Symbolic links have been available on ALL Unix OS'es for as long as I have been working with them (more than 20 years...)
PLEASE check output of commands as per my previous post.
If /usr/openv folder exists because of previous installation attempt, the sym link command will not work. You will have to remove openv folder first.
PS:
Where is your Solaris system administrator?
I removed whole openv folder under /usr...created link as mentioned above...now getting below error..
