Tape Library problem

Hello,

We have recently installed a new SL500 Tape Library. It was delivered with 1 tape and all tests runned well. Later we loaded it with 40 more tapes and then the problems started. First, ts SL Console was not accessible so we oppened a service call and a technician went on-site and fixed something related to the library door. Then SL Console was accessible and shows no errors. However, our admin reports that NetBackup still cannot use the library reporting this error:

MachineState = active for disk jobs (12)  <---- unable to attach Tape with EMM database

Since I have no experience with NetBackup and tape libraries, can somebody help me to understand what is the problem and how can we fix it. Also what additional commands should we run to get more details on this problem?

Thank you very much for your help!

Ivan

  • You need NetBackup Library Based Tape Drive license key in order to use the robotic tape drives in NBU. It is a separate line item on your license key certificate (not included in NetBackup Enterprise Server license).

You can see that this description/feature appears nowhere in license key output.
No idea how it worked previously...

Standalone tape drives can be used without this license key.

  • It is purchased from Symantec.

Please check with the person in your company who holds your license certificates - this robot: TLD (11) seems to one of many (12) robots in this environment. You probably have sufficient Library Based Tape Drive licenses and you were just not given the license key.

  • Thank you all for your help and especially Marianne for finding the solution! This is a great forum, very helpful smiley
