Threshold of 90%

Hi!

Client want to know if  expired backups from our DR server can dedeleted. Right now they are above the threshold of 90%.

I believe expired backups are subjected for overwrite right?

What is the workaround if threshold of 90% is reached?

    Add to that have you been having issues with image deletion. Once an image is expired then NBU will delete the image thus freeing up space. Where are you determining the 90%? Is it from the Admin Console or from the server tools like df or Windows right click folder properties?

    More info re environment pls?

    OS version, NBU version, disk type?  NetBackup MSDP?  Or other vendor OST?  Basic outline of config?  Size of disk pools?

    Just to clarify, once an image is expired it will be deleted or will it be ready to be overwritten for new backups?

    Customer uses data domain console to alert us of our current disc space.

    The image cleanup job runs by default, every 12 hours.

    It deletes expired images

    Is the Data Domain a VTL or NFS / CIFS share? If it is a VTL then NetBackup should be treating the unit like a tape library and then erase the old "cartridges" which tells the DD unit to release the disk space. If the reclaim is not being performed then the DD needs to be looked at.

    We need more info as per Andrew's post above.

    We have seen issues at a customer's site (using OST) where NBU expires images, runs nbdelete on media server (as can be seen in bpdm log), which in turn notifies DD of image expiration.

    The DD is not doing the delete immediately - it waits for its maintenance window. The environment is so busy that the DD is falling further and further behind, leaving more and more 'orphaned' images on disk.
    This is a DD issue, not NBU and must be addressed with your DD support team.

    Exactly as Marianne has mentioned, images will be expired by NBU and will no longer be in the catalog but space will not be reclaimed on the DD until the filesystem clean has run. By default I think this is once a week but obviously it depends on the clean schedule that is in place. The cleanable data currently on the DD filesystem is listed on most of the filesystem / space usage summaries.
