updating the netbackup linux and windows clients

Hi,

Its time to upgrade my netbackup clients from older ( 6.5.6 / 7.5.4/ 7.5 ) to latest 7.7.1. we are having around 880 clients windows / linux.

we have Linux master server running with 7.7.1.

I have found in the forums that the live update is the better option to update the clients

But I dont think it is feasible with in our enviroinment ( coz it takes lot of approvals and time consuming ).

Is there any any bash script to update the clients will be helpful.

LiveUpdate is the quickest way. If you try a different method then you'll still need to work out which ports to use for said other method, becaus eyou still need to somehow copy the kits to the client. And you'll need to write some fairly complex code to handle all the different locations and flavours of clients. Why re-invent the wheel? Just use LiveUpdate. If your security team whinge, then plan to have the required ports open only for a short period of time during the change Window.

LiveUpdate is good because is handle both Windows and UNIX/Linux.

When you have a Linux Master Server you can use the update_clients script to update Linux/Unix clients, but not Windows.

Hi

The Live Update document described the live update serve to be windows server. This is what it is mentioned in Live update document.- page 15

"Note: Currently, using a Windows shared disk requires the share to be set up as a null share. For more details, refer to the following tech note at"

Can some one put some bullet points how to configure the the Live update server ( Linux box ).

Live update is great for windows, however the *NIX packages require 5GB of /tmp space out of the box to even run, in larger environments its usually easier to build a package for your patch managment software (SCCM) or such.

The silent installer can be configured and run via that patch manager, if you want to go down the live update route, and have space available make sure your LiveUpdate system is a web server and place the packages there, the share option is really challenging to setup and normally on the local LAN port 80 (web port) is not blocked so it wouldnt require you to actually do much on clients if anything at all.

I dont think I can be able to do with SCCM. I need to pull in the windows team and get lot of approvals its time consuming.

I have a linux machine ready with me. Is there any way to configure this box as Live update server and update all the clients ( nix and windows )

Any idea please throw some light .

You can serve live updates via http/https instead of CIFS/NFS.

In a mixed environment, that's the delivery method I would choose.

We ran in to same issues and with network challenges couldn't implement the Live Update. Finally, followed below to upgrade more than 3000 servers

1. silentinstall.cmd file part of NBU install was modified with correct configs and kept ready seperately for x86 and x64 clients

2. Wrote a VBScript that internally invokes the correct silentinstall.cmd checking if x86/x64 client and also ensuring that C:\ drive has enough space.

3. Action plan was from an internal secure server, using Robocopy, copied the vbs+cmd to 3000 plus server

4. Same Internal server had psexec installed which remotely triggered this vbs file and installation completed successfully.

Hi experts , Configured webserver on linux box and serverd the Live update packages. I am able to access the files to download them.

configured live update policy and tried to run, getting the below error.

env: NB master linux 7.5, Client: Linux NB 7.0

Live update server on linux with apache. ( live update files are of 7.5.0.5 )

I am getting the error attached in snap

please help me out
