vCenter Virtual Appliance

I need some assistance.
We are thinking to upgrade our vCenter from a Windows machines, to the vCenter Virtual Appliance, which runs on Linux.
Do you think Netbackup will still work, if we decide to use the Linux based virtual appliance.
Any thoughts or views would be appreciated.

  • Seems to work - we used the Vcenter virtual appliance in a test lab and the Netbackup and Vcenter worked fine together. Let me check the support matrix - will be back.

    Update:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH127089

I believe the Vcenter Linux appliance is supported as long as it matches the tabel 10 page 14. It say "**All versions in the range are supported**" - " vCenter Server 4.0 to vCenter Server 5.1"

  • Backup host must be Windows in case of IVR, for rest linux based vcenter appliance should be fine if appliance allows NBU client to be installed in it.

I believe NBU does support linux based backuphost hence there shouldn't be any problem at all

    Give it a try

  • thanks for your replies. I wonder if Symantec can also comment on this.
