Backing up system files

Hi there

After the backup job finished I have the message in the job log file that these files in the windows directory can not be backuped:

C:\WINDOWS\security\edb.log
C:\WINDOWS\security\tmp.edb
C:\WINDOWS\security\Database\secedit.sdb
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wins\winstmp.mdb

Are these files in use? Do I need to buy the Advanced Open File Option to backup them? Or is there another reason why they can not be backuped?

Thanks for your help

Chris

  • Hello,

Skipped files: edb.log, tmp.edb, secedit.sdb The files(edb.log, tmp.edb, secedit.sdb) are Operating System related files and exclusively used by the Operating System.
    edb.log, tmp.edb, secedit.sdb
These files are exclusively locked by the Windows OS therefore cannot be backed up by Backup Exec. However these are temporary files and are recreated.

The backup job log shows that the files are skipped during the backup when the files are open and in-use by a third party software.
You can use Open File Option (OFO) to backup the in-use files or close all applications during backup.
