Backup has slowed dramatically

We usually back up about 25GB in roughly 2.5 hours. For some reason lately the backups take over 24 hours which obviously causes a problem. We are running Small Business Server Suite Version 9.1 Rev. 4691 on Small Business Server 2003.

  • We run Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition. The scan is scheduled for 3:00 AM. The backup is scheduled for 11:00 PM. The backup normally takes 2.5 hours which means they would not be running at the same time. At present the backup started last night at 11:00 PM is still running. It is 9:30 AM and only a little over 8GB has been handled in 10.5 hours.

Thank you. That was a good suggestion. Anything else?
  • Try deactivating the virusscanner completely and see if the backup then finishes within the expected time frame. It it does you know the virusscanner is causing the problem. (maby its onaccess scanning features ?)

  • I checked the running processes and there was an exe using a lot of the CPU. It turned out to be an issue with our POP3 Connector. I downloaded a hotfix and the problem went away. Thank you for your suggestions.
