Cannot delete drive pools in Backup Exec v9.1

Following the failure of an LTO-1 AutoLoader, the TapeInst.exe utility was used to remove the Veritas drivers for the dead AutoLoader.
A new LTO-3 AutoLoader was fitted, Veritas drivers installed eventually and I am now unable to delete the old drive pools.
The Pool can be selected but there is no way to delete it, the option is greyed out under General Tasks or when trying to Right-click on the drive pool.
Is there are way I can delete the obsolete drive pool?
The previous (dead) autoLoader was partitioned and the creation of the partition table created the drive pools automatically.

  • Is the old hardware still visible in the devices tab?

This may be overkill, but if all else fails, you can

    shut down the media server
    remove/disconnect the loader
Run TAPEINST  and tell it to remove all devices not found
start the server again and try to delete the Device Pool again
if it works, shut down, reconnect devices and restart
recreate the device pools and partitions
