Exchange 2000 Information Store restore

From what i understand of the way the Microsoft Exchange agent works. The information store is backed up and then committed log files are flushed. Does the agent back up these files anywhere before flushing them. We need to access some of the Transaction logs and cannot seem to find them on any backups.

  • Hi,
This is in reference to your problem well first of all a full backup of exchange will flush the committed transaction logs and backup the database as well as the transaction logs.IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE TRANSACTION LOGS U WILL HAVE TO RESTORE THE WHOLE MAILBOX STORE OR PUBLIC FOLDER STORE AND THE ASSOCIASTED TRANSACTION LOGS WILL ALSO BE RESTORED.
PLEASE REFER TO THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENT:

  • No - the committed log file are not backed up - this is the same for any Backup Software that use MS ESE to successfully backup Exchange (which is probably just about every piece of backup software out there).

The only way to get a backup of the logs files before a Full backup is to run a differential exchange backup first.
