Technical design issues Veritas 9.1

I have a few questions that to seem to be causing problems in my environment. I cover them quickly and will be looking forward to responses.

1. Veritas 9.1 seems to randomly run very slowly some nights, this being on the main file server causes end users problems the next day as the server appears to be down to them. My question is is it better for the backupexec to run on another server? My feeling is that this would help when the backups take longer than normal. I am investigating the time issue as well, but I really want to move the software to a different server.

2. This question relates to version 10 of Veritas. How was the upgrade for you? Should I get 9.1 running on another server and then upgrade or attempt to go with 10 from scratch?

Thanks!

    - Additionally keep the disk activity to minimum during backups.
    - Stop antivirus service if it is on.
    - Are you backing up any databases?

  • Oh, boy.

Let's paste a canned response, then call it soup.

Is this what passes for technical support at Veritas these days?

  • It is what I have come to expect from Veritas. I have been told many times by the "techs" that my network is the problem and is too slow to handle the backups. Funny I upgraded to 10.0 and amazingly I get the performance I expect night after night. I did however have to spend $1500 on a copy of Windows 2003 and the associated licenses just so I could run 10.0.

I believed the hype 9.1 is the upgrade you need for NT 4.0. I should have just stayed with 6.3 it ran great and never gave me a problem.
