Veritas Netbackup software - Drive address 1 is already occupied by a drive

When i try to configure Veritas net backup am getting the below attached error.

Tried to reconfigure the tape library still we are facing the same issue.

IBM team confirmed that there is no issue with hardware.

  • The robot has x number of drives, lets say 4 - in positions 1,2,3,4 within the library.

When you run device config, aside of the drives, NBU identifies the robot, and the drives within the robot (this is seen in scan -changer - the drives will be listed via serial number).

The drive that is in position 1 in the robot, is not visible to the OS of any of the machines that you are scanning when running device wizard.

First thing, find the serial number of the drive in library position 1 (and it's mac address) and then see which machines it is zoned to, or not, as the case may be.

  • If you are trying to reconfigure it means that there is existing NBU config in place, right?

So, if you want to reconfigure, then it is best to delete all existing devices on master (and media server if you have media server(s) as well), restart NBU Device Management Service and then start from scratch.

        Please share all relevant info:

Is this single NBU master server that will also be used as media server?
Or master server with one or more media server?
        Tape library make/model?
        Tape drive(s) in library make/model?
How is tape library and drive(s) connected to NBU master and/or media servers?

OS on master and/or media server(s)?
        NBU version on master/media server(s)?

If Windows, can you confirm that the OS Device Manager sees the Medium Changer and tape drives and that latest Vendor tape driver is installed?

Please share the output of the following 2 commands from NBU master (and any media server(s) in the environment):
        scan
        tpconfig -l
        (commands are in <install-path>\veritas\volmgr\bin)
