Re: Installing the netbackup windows client on a Windows 2012 core server As Chris said, a remote install is probably the easiest: Remote Installation 1. PC_Clnt\x64\Setup.exe to start the setup wizard. 2. Follow the prompts. You will have the option to specify local or remote installation. 3. Refer to the Remote Installation Instructions in the NetBackup for Microsoft Windows Client Chapter in the "NetBackup Installation Guide for Windows" for additional installation instructions. You might also be able to perform a Silent install from the command line: To perform a silent installation of NetBackup client software on Windows 1. Copy the self extracting executable NB_7.5.0.6.winnt.x64.Client.Win2012.exe to the system to a temporary location. 2. From the command line navigate to directory where the executable is and run it to extract the file.. 3. In the temporary directory, if you have a command line text editor, edit the silentclient.cmd file so the script installs the client software as needed. or edit the silentclient.cmd on another system and copy it into place 4. Run the silentclient.cmd script. 5. To verify that the installation was successful, check the installation log file in the following directory: %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Symantec\NetBackup\InstallLogs Re: Need to increase jobs in Activity Monitor You may also want to look at implementing Opscenter if possbile in your environement. Base Opscenter is included with NetBackup. This keeps jobs infromation and other information for a lot longer and allows you to report against specific date ranges. this would allow you to reduce the amount of days in the activity monitor so that you could keep performance higher for your daily operations. Here is a link to a short video that gives some of the highlights of OpsCenter. http://www.symantec.com/products-solutions/products/videos-lightbox.jsp?cid=opscenter_analytics_demo Re: Need suggestion on encrypting tapes Satish, There is some configuration that is required. You will need to setup the security server and the MSEO agent on each media server that will use it. There is a MSEO GUI and command line to manage the keys and setup. There are different compression and encryption settings that you can configure and then policy configurations. Here is a link to the MSEO 6.1.8 documentation. It includes an Admin guide and release notes guide. http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC6159 Certain LTO3 drives are supported as well as NDMP jobs. The SORT site (sort.symantec.com) has a link to the install checklist where you can check compatibility for your hardware. Skip Re: MSEO CPU impact? It is hard to say how much impact MSEO would have on a media server. Generally the biggest impact is on CPU. Variations in CPU types, number of cores and algorithm selection will impact the performance. Look at the percent of the CPU usage prior to encryption to get a current baseline. This at least will give you a starting point where you could add percentage increase of overhead based on your configuration. If you enable compression and encryption there will be additional overhead. Here is a link to the MSEO 6.1.8 version. (the MSEO versions do not match the NBU versions). This documentation may help with some of the configuration choices. http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC6159 Re: Need suggestion on encrypting tapes MSEO would work to run a duplicate from one drive to another and encrypt the data. It would read in the non-encrypted data and then write it out encrypted to the second drive.
