My computer caught fire…
I was advised to repost this topic here by Symantec... All I have got left is the external drive, (USB, 1000 GB), containing the backups. I wasn't unduly worried – after all this is why you have backups isn't it? The computer was fairly old and had two IDE drives with Windows 7 and a matching motherboard with an older type of RAM. The backup was made with Ghost 12 – I had no idea that it had become obsolete. I bought a new computer with two SATA drives. Apparently IDE drives and matching motherboards boards are no longer made. I booted from the SRD but the machine couldn't see the USB drive. I installed Windows 7 and then it could see the USB drive when I booted from the SRD. I told to restore the C drive after which it wouldn't boot from the drive. I subsequently chatted with Symantec support who told me that if I installed the appropriate Ghost application on the new machine it would be possible to restore from my USB drive. The agent insisted that in the whole of Symantec there was not a single remaining copy of any version of ghost… I managed to find a "Try and buy" copy of Ghost 15. Will this work? If not what can I do? The chatline agent did not know the answer to these questions and referred me to this forum. David3.9KViews0likes27CommentsAccessing v2i file from 2009
I have a .v2i backup file made in 2009from a machine that is now long dead. I would like to be able to at least inspect the contents of this file. So far, following advice found in this forum and other places, Ihave tried: "Ghost Explorer" program -doesn't work as the file is not a .gho Symantec System Recovery 2013 R2 - produces error ED80001F: "This recovery point file uses a form of compression (131072) that is not supported by this version of the product on thisplatform". Perhttps://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH55857.html, here are two possible solutions for this issue. The first solution is to restore the older compressed image with BESR 7.0 or earlier. The second solution is to convert the backups (images) created in BESR 6.5, 7.0 and Live State Recovery 3.0, 6.0 with medium compression to a different compression format before the image can be restored in BESR 8.0. Image Browser (tool in older versions) can copy an older image with medium compression to a new backup file using high compression or no compression. Before I give up on my old backup file altogether -assuming "BESR 7.0" is a (superseded)product, is there any way to obtain it? Or does anyone have other ideas on how I can get into this file? I am having a problem with my laptop in recovering the data on one of the partition. On my laptop, I had PGP-WDE installed with C: and D:. On C: the OS, WinXP was installed and D: had all my personal/official data. I have upgraded to windows 7 and laptop was formatted without backing up the data from D: as Copy/Paste could not be performed. Now my laptop is working again and PGP has been installed but the D: when I double-click on it says ‘The disk in drive D: is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?’. I am not sure if my old data is still present on the D: and could be recovered using PGP or any other software. I really need help on this. Please someone guide me or provide instructions on recovery of data521Views0likes2Comments
