Backup 2015 DLM not running
I have a CASO setup with one VM running the CASO role and three media servers on different locations. The media servers are physical with big D: and E: drives (only local disk, no removable disk or so), disk storage + dedupe storage. Catalogs are stored centrally and all servers run 2012 R2 OS and Backup Exec is fully patched with the latest patches as of today. Our normal backup procedure is to run the backup jobs to disk and then duplicate to dedupe storage, we also do some optimized duplication from one media server to another with duplication from dedupe to dedupe storage. We installed all serversearly Septemberand everything is running fine except that the disk storage backup sets will not be removed by DLM even if they are expired (or manually expired by right clicking and selecting "expire"). I installed another server to test earlier today and noticed that in the audit log (on the new test server) I could see that DLM log an event for every backup set it removes and it works just fine on that setup. This is acompletely independent backup exec instanceand only runs one backup job for test. In the audit log of our "real" backup server there is not a single entry logged by DLM from day one which is really strange. I logged a case yesterday with Veritas/Symantec support and the test we agreed on doing was to first run an inventory of the disk storage and when that didn't help we decided to do an inventory + catalog as well, since we have 39,5 TB of data to process it will take a while so I decided to try it on one of the other media servers instead (which is not fully used yet) and it didn't help so instead of just waiting until Monday I decided to write here to see if anyone else have experienced the same issue. I have tried with (and without)the "Allow Backup Exec to delete all expired backup sets" enabled with no changeof the result. Anyone who has information that can help me, it would be very appreciated? Thanks!575Views4likes1CommentJobs stuck indefinitely in Queued Status
We have had an ongoing issue for about 2 months now, and since we have had a clean build (3 times now) for Backup Exec 2012. We have opened numerous cases with Symantec to resolve this, and they claim the first time that HotFix 209149 (see http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH204116 ) corrects the issue. The issue is also noted by seeing Robotic Element errors stating that OST media is full and it brings the "virtual" slot for the PureDisk or OST storage device offline. Restarting the services in BE only makes the problem worse and causes a snowball effect whereby jobs constantly error in the ADAMM log files. Essentially, the jobs never can get a concurrency/virtual slot and they stay Queued forever. I have seen others on this Forum with this problem, and while the Forum administrator seems to mark them as "Solved", they are not - because I see the threads drop off with no resolution identified. Are other people having this problem? If so, how are you overcoming it? Once it starts the environment is essentially dead in the water because the jobs never start (they sit Queued forever) - save for one concurrency which for our size environment is only 1/4 the need we have. We use CAS and 4 MMS servers with 2008 R2 with all patches applied, PureDisk 32TB volume on each MMS, Data Domain OST connection to DD-670 OST with OST-Plug 2.62 (28TB), replicated catalogs, and duplicate jobs for optimized deduplication between MMSs. We run BE 2012 SP3 clean - we reinstalled with SP3 slipstreamed because Symantec said this problem could be fixed through database repair by them manually or by reinstall...we chose reinstall (even though they did offer to "fix" the issue with database repair). We chose reinstall to validate whether SP3 truly fixes the issue. It is clear to us it does not. We are looking for anyone else who has had this problem to report into this forum. Version 14.0 1798 Problem: I’m having trouble getting past some issues with this structure. It comes down to either optimized deduplication works, but I can’t use the MBES/MMS when the CAS is down or both sites are fault tolerant but I can’t setup optimized deduplication between them. Goal: My goal is to use optimized/shared deduplication to replicate server backups between my two sites and be able to restore those backups and local backups during a vpn failure or site failure. If site A is down, I want to recover site A servers to site B. If site B is down, I want to recover site B servers to site A. Details: I thought that I could place a Backup Exec 2012 server at each site and use optimized deduplication for this, but I ran into a few problems. Optimized deduplication, or shared deduplication as it is now called, seems to require the Central Administration Server Option and this has the following options for its Managed Backup Exec Servers: 1. Centrally managed Backup Exec server 1a. Centrally managed Backup Exec server with Unrestricted access to catalogs and backup sets for restore 2. Locally managed Backup Exec server Options 1 & 1a: With the “Centrally managed Backup Exec server” option chosen for the Managed Backup Exec Server. Having a CAS with a deduplication folder at site A and a MBES with a deduplication folder at site B works and staged jobs will run from one deduplication folder to the other. The problem here is that if the CAS is down or the VPN is down, I can’t even bring up the BE2012 console on the MBES let alone run jobs or restores. The MBES is totally dependant on a persistent communication link with the CAS under the “Centrally managed Backup Exec server” “Managed Backup Exec Server Configuration” option. Option 2: MBES that is a “Locally managed Backup Exec server”. While the CAS and MBES can still function without each other under this scenario, I can not share the MBES deduplication folder with the CAS. So I can’t do optimized deduplication between the two. Am I wrong about optimized deduplication requiring CAS + Centrally managed Backup Exec server? If so, please explain how to set it up. Is there a way to use the Centrally managed Backup Exec server when the CAS is down? I don’t understand how I’m supposed to recover if the CAS is gone.649Views4likes5CommentsHow to duplicate from replicated VTL to real tape
There are 3 BE 2012 servers in CASO environment. All connect to each DataDomain VTL. VTL is replicated by Data Domain. I just config DD to replicated VTL and BE catalog. But I just wonder how to duplicate only data from last night to real tape. Can I create job on CASO to backup on MMS1 and duplicate to real tape on CAS.836Views3likes8CommentsManaging BE enviroment with CASO
Hello, is it possible to manage about 30 BE servers using CASO, from dfferent locations? I would like to install remote console in eachof 30 locations to communicate with CASO. Management and monitoring will be centralized (one central CASO). I would like every local Admin can manage backups for his VMs (running on local cluster). We have one vSphere - about 30 clustrs in different locations. One Backup Exec centalized system. But we would like to manage local backups by local admins throug remote console conecting to CASO. Is it possible? Are there any roles and permisions to connect to CASO?Solved468Views2likes1CommentBKEXEC 2012 - CASO / TRAIL

We have several Hyper-V hosts that we are backing up to deduplication storage at several remote sites all managed by a CASO server. We are in the process of setting up optimized deduplication by duplicating the deduplication disk storage at our remote locations to a central location. To get the best performance (and use the least amount of bandwidth) during theduplication to our centralsite, shouldwe backupthe Hyper-V guests using the Hyper-V agent on the host or backup each vm guestseparately with the Windows Agent? We do have the Windows agent installed on every Hyper-V guest so that we can use GRT. I was not sure ifOptimized Deduplication workedwell with the Hyper-V agent backups, since is it backing up the whole VHD file of the guest and didn't know if that would offer any "optimization" during the duplication process.236Views2likes1CommentDoes More than one Techn work at Symantec?????

Hi all, After my Backup Exec 15 (latest patch and sp) server failed and returned back to life, I installed another BE15 and enabled CASO (Central Administration Server Option). Now I need to duplicate some of the backup sets that reside on the old server (now managed server) to CAS. Both have deduplication option enabled and have dedup storages configured. Both can perform backups. When I browse old server's dedup storage and select the needed backup set and select duplicate option, I see the new server's dedup storage. I select new server storage and start the process but it is stuck on "Ready; Backup Exec Server not available" on the job monitor tab. This is the screenshot of the job: And here is the frustrating outcome; I have enabled private cloud out of despair on both serverand ofcourse it did not do any good. Anyone have any idea?Solved1.8KViews1like4CommentsVery slow Backup Exec Console (GUI)
