Hi, We have new Network infratructure being implemented where the traditional method of stacking switches to allow us to LACP across multiple switches, has been replaced with a new NEXUS 9000 setup which now uses something call VPC (Virtual Port Channelling). I dont know much about this but have been asked by the Technical Architects to confirm that the VPC is supported by the Netbackup appliances? Our appliances are 5230 at version 2.6.0.2 (7.6.0.2) Hopefully someone has come across this before and can help ? Thanks Nick913Views0likes1CommentNetbackup Appliance vs DataDomain
Hi We are in a process to make changes to our current backup environment. Our main focus is to do some changes in our 2 main sites. Both sites have their respective domains with multiple mediaservers (no appliance or DD). What we are trying to achieve is as follows: Try to merge both domains, so both are member of the same domain acting as a cluster with 1 node at each site. Purchase storage or appliance to achieve the following: With 1 storage\appliance at each site, have optimized duplication enabled so we have 2 copies of the backup, one at each site(storage\appliance) at all time. This to gradually go away fromweekly tape vault and go overto a disk based solution. I have done som research already, and this forum thread is to verify the information in handand to add even more information is possible. Could someone give me answers to the following questions: First and foremost, to achieve the above mentioned goals, Do you guys suggest DataDomain or Netbackup Appliance? And then why? Is optimized duplication only a feature available in storages like Netbackup appliances\DD or is it something you can achieve with two MSDP pools at each site? Netbackup recommends that we segment the data on a dedupe pool for best performance, how are we suppose to achieve that when we only can create 1 pool out of 1 Netbackup appliance? In DD you can create mutiple pools, and have a Global deduplication enabled. How can we achieve that with Netbackup appliance?Solved4.5KViews0likes17CommentsBackup all Hyper-V guest machines on a host
We have NetBackup 7.6.1.1 Appliance based infrastructure. I would like to add all Hyper-V VMs to NBU policy so that we don’t have to select the guests indovidually. For example, If a guest is added on Hyper-V which is already being backed-up thought NBU, could that guest automatically be part of the backup? Like we are able to do with VMware inNBU. Question 1: For Hyper-V hosts to be added to the backup policy, is there a way to add all VMs residing on that Hyper-V server instead of adding the hosted VMs individually on the policy? The following steps I have taken from Symantec technote for Hyper-V backups; 11. Using the clients tab we can add the virtual machines for backup. 12. On the Backup Selections tab, Select ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES. This is the only backup selection which is supported for the backup of Hyper-V virtual machines. Question 2: This ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES -> is it for Hyper-V or for the VMs?Solved561Views0likes1CommentNetbackup Appliance 2.6.1.1 Mail Issues FIXED
The Mail Issues that everyone is having with netbackup appliance is fixed in 2.6.1.1, but 2.6.1.2 breaks the email fix. Has anyone else experience this Has stated in their release notes SMTP server settings for appliance notifications Starting with NetBackup Appliance 2.6.1.1, all email notifications that get generated by the appliance use the same SMTP settings. These emails include hardware monitoring notifications and NetBackup job notifications. The configuration settings are located under Settings > Notification > Alert Configuration in the NetBackup Appliance Web Console or Main_Menu > Settings > Alerts in the NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu. These settings override any previous SMTP setup you may have previously used to send NetBackup job notifications. Note: If you had already configured the appliance SMTP settings before you upgraded to NetBackup Appliance 2.6.1.1, you may need to re-save the configuration in order for NetBackup to use it. In the NetBackup Appliance Web Console, go to Settings > Notification > Alert Configuration and click Save. Or in the NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu, go to Main_Menu > Settings > Alerts and resubmit the SMTP and SenderID settings.776Views0likes0CommentsUpgrade operating system for Symantec Appliance 5220
Our Information Security team, as per the annual audit, scanned the hosts for vulnerability and found that the OS on these appliance is very old - scan output message says, "Unsupported Unix Operating System". Lack of support implies that no new security patches for the product will be released by the vendor. As a result, it is likely to contain security vulnerabilities. Question: We have upgraded the Appliance to version 2.6.1.1, however that does not upgrade the underlying OS. Is there any technote from Symantec supporting that OS shall remain the same or plans on upgrading the Appliance OS etc. in detail? Thanks All.Solved1.2KViews0likes5Commentsnbostpxy.exe multiple threads on Windows 2008 R2 server
We have NetBackup 7.6.0.4 running on Appliance 5220 ver. 2.6.0.4. Recently some resource issues forced us review the processes on one of the SQL cluster node and found the (see attached) nbostpxy.exe, each eating up 6% CPU utilization. I stopped the client services and killed all these threads manually. However, the next time back kicked in, the same threads appeared and peaked CPU utilization. I understand that this process is involved with deduplication processing on the client, but we are not running any client side deduplication. We have media server deduplication configured with Appliances 5220. Is this kind of bug, please share your thoughts.Solved1.9KViews0likes5CommentsNetbackup Appliance 2.6.1.1 Java Console "Unable to login,status:503 Invalid Username"
